World of Warcraft,Destiny 2, andFinal Fantasy 14are some of the biggest names right now when it comes to MMOs and live-service games. While Bungie’s FPS MMO might be young compared to Square Enix’sFF14and Bizzard’sWoW,Destiny 2is consistently setting new recordsin endgame activity, player count, and more. True to their status as live-service games, there’s plenty of content for players to enjoy regularly between all three titles.

After all, titles likeFF14,D2,andWoWare known for keeping fans interested and around by introducing limited-time events, and even daily and weekly tasks for extra rewards. These tasks typically reset at certain times, and dedicated players like the onesplayingFinal Fantasy 14every day, usually make time for it. The events often start at specific times as well. As nice as this sounds, there’s a bit of a caveat that comes with live-service games updating frequently.

World of Warcraft, Final Fantasy 14, and Destiny 2 Update on the Same Day

Something that players ofDestiny 2,World of Warcraft, andFinal Fantasy 14all understand is the concept of downtime. Every live-service game has to go offline in order for the developers to perform routine maintenance to make sure that the game runs smoothly both in general and when new content gets added. However, things get a bit tricky when players try to keep their schedule free for when tasks reset and patches release as all three of these games update on Tuesdays.

WoWhas what fans call “Tuesday morning downtime” every week between 5 AM and 11 AM Pacific time.FF14does the same once the clock strikes midnight in the same time zone.Destiny 2follows this trend, and has its weekly reset and downtime on Tuesday at noon in US Eastern time. However, this is only when the maintenance starts, and not when it ends as it usually depends on the type of content being added. For those who play two, or even all three games at once, it may be hard to prioritize one title over another due to the fact that half of the day is taken up by these times.

While some of these resets only feature simple things such as weekly tasks, others may mark the beginning of limited-time special events that can take steal a player’s time in favor of it over another title. It can be easily said that the number of players who playFF15,WoW, andD2frequently is a very small number, but these games merely highlight a much larger problem as there are a number of live-service games that end up demanding time from their players on the market.Genshin Impactis hardly the only gacha gamewith frequent events for fans to play, for example.

Depending on the games players like to play regularly, be it on their PC or even their phone, they could find themselves easily in a balancing act to complete a number of daily tasks while keeping track of important events with exclusive items and goodies rather frequently, as some of these may take years to come back around likeWorld of Warcraft’sTier 3 Armor sets. Some fans can easily feel left out if they don’t get to join in these special events as much as they’d like to due to other games they have to keep up with, or even more personal commitments.

While good time management could help players stay on top of things quite a bit, perhaps somelive-service and MMO gamescould benefit from some time management themselves every once in a while. It sadly comes down to these titles being very competitive about player retention, so there likely won’t be a slow-down withDestiny 2,World of Warcraft,Final Fantasy 14, and many other similar titles anytime soon.

Destiny 2is currently available for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
