As fans await the arrival of theResident Evil 4remake, many will be scouring the internet looking for all sorts of promotional material, and some new screenshots have made their presence known. Thefuture ofResident Evilis pretty solid at the moment, not just with the two newer entries, but also from the successful remakes of past games. Capcom’s survival horror franchise is one of the most iconic in the genre, and while there was a middle period where some feel it lost touch with its roots, many would agree that it’s back in top form. With this upcoming iteration ofRE4, a lot of people will be anticipating what can be expected from the reimagining of the 2005 classic. While the developer has said it will be bringing a few surprises, it will also retain much of what made the original so beloved, includingResident Evil 4’s divisive island section. Given the high praise the remakes of the second and third entries in the series received, it stands to reason that a retelling of one of the franchise’s best installments will be a smash hit as well.RELATED:Resident Evil 4 Remake Falsely Advertised for Platform It’s Not Coming ToOf course, time will tell on that front, but for now some new screenshots fromResident Evil 4have been doing the rounds recently. In a post on Twitter from the official JapaneseREportal, fans have been treated to more images which show some familiar locations, such as the castle area. As with previous screenshots, trailers, and teasers, these latest uploads really hammer home the idea that Capcom is going for a much darker mood for the remake. While the original release had a somewhat goofy, B-movie lean, this reimagining seems to be going for a broodier, even somber, vibe.
Over the decades, there have been plenty of installments in Capcom’s horror staple, butResident Evil 4is considered the best of the bunchby many. Moving away from the fixed camera angle of its predecessors, the fourth entry introduced an over-the-shoulder viewpoint, which was something of a game changer back then. It also went for a more action-orientated approach, which was both its strength and its weakness, as it led to the fifth and sixth games, which many consider to be the least favorable.
In general, horror fans have a lot to look forward to in 2023. Aside fromRE4, there’s the remake ofDead Space, as well as some indie offerings such asThe Outlast TrialsandSons of the Forest, the follow-up to 2018’sThe Forest. In short, fans of scary games are in for a good time this year.
Resident Evil 4is scheduled to release on March 24 for PC, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
