For quite a while now, The Recluse submachinegun has been the best primary weapon inDestiny 2. The pinnacle weapon that was earned in the Crucible was quickly recognized as also being extremely strong in PvE activities as well. Its signature Master of Arms perk allowed it to get a huge damage buff after a kill with any weapon in a player’s loadout, most notably multiplying non-precision hits to precision hit damage. This made it a part ofone of the best loadouts in the game.
But The Recluse was nerfed in the current Season of Dawn, specifically by removing that multiplier to non-precision hits and applying a 20% damage buff across the board as the weapon now applies damage like any other weapon inDestiny 2. When the nerf was announced, many players already concluded that The Recluse would fall out of the top spot for the best primary weapon in the game as players started looking for a replacement. And it looks like Season of Dawn itself may have brought it.

With the start of Season of Dawn with its Sundial activity and its linkedObelisks, players are able to earn the sidearm Breachlight. And Breachlight quickly outclasses the damage of The Recluse. Breachlight is a kinetic sidearm that is unlocked via the Tangled Shore Obelisk and then either running The Sundial or completing a Timelost weapon bounty. It is an Aggressive Burst sidearm, which fires a two-round burst and it has a great selection of perks to buff its damage above that of The Recluse.
As tested by YouTuber Ehroar, at its base values, Breachlight does just a bit less damage than The Recluse, but once perks like Rampage and Multikill Clip come into play, the Breachlight quickly surpasses The Recluse in pure DPS numbers. Even more, the Breachlight is much easier to control with better stability and range than The Recluse. Even on PC, where players can pretty easily control The Recluse (much more than compared to consoles), Breachlight can more easily reach out and hit enemies from a further distance.
Players farming for this weapon will want to look for an Outlaw/Multikill Clip roll for the most DPS available, or a roll with Rampage, or a utility roll with Grenadier if players like that perk and the fast grenade regeneration that it grants. Breachlight can also roll with the newly added Osmosis perk that can turn the kinetic weapon into an energy weapon that matches with a players' equipped subclass, the same perk that is found onthe Vanguard ritual weapon Buzzard.
Breachlight is definitely a weapon to farm for during this season and may become the best PvE primary weapon in the game since the nerf to The Recluse. The Recluse is still a great weapon, butthe latest Recluse nerftook it from being the best primary weapon in the game to the best submachinegun in the game.
