They have their own ideologies and outlooks about life. The clashing of ideas is sometimes more fun than the clashing of swords. However, on several occasions, Kishimoto decided to change the villain’s evil personality and this decision backfired. There are a handful of characters inNaruto, who were better off as staying evil.

6Nagato Uzumaki

Nagato Uzumaki is the main antagonist of the Pain Assault arc. Originally, Nagato was an innocent young boy, but the death of his friend, Yahiko changed his life altogether. Nagato came to the realization that world peace could not be achieved without using force. So, he decided that he would unite the world with strength. With the aid of Akatsuki, Nagato started to hunt and collect the tailed beasts. His plan was to use the Demonic Statue’s power to achieve his goal.

During his attack on the Hidden Leaf, Nagato almost killed the entire population of the village with his attack. But after Naruto defeated Tendo Pain, Nagato decided to redeem himself. Naruto’s speech played an importantrole in Nagato’s redemption, and while the speech might come off as extremely impressive, it did nothing more than ruin a perfectly fine villain. What drew the fans to Nagato was his ideology and that he stuck by it. Nagato’s change of heart was embarrassing and ruined his character.

5Itachi Uchiha

Labeled a prodigy by hisclan members, Itachi Uchihagrew up to become one of the most impressive ninjas of his generation. Itachi had to undergo many traumatic experiences, which included murdering his parents and torturing his younger brother. Itachi was forced to commit these heinous acts because of Danzo. Before the truth about Itachi came to light, he came off as an amazing villain.

He had an air of calm about him, and he rarely got worked up over a problem. Even when Jiraiya trapped him inside his Jutsu, Itachi simply used Amaterasu to escape. Itachi’s Tsukuyomi put Kakashi in the hospital for several days, which shows the difference between the two. Furthermore, Itachi also managed to beat Orochimaru quite easily.

In his fight against Sasuke, he always had the upper hand, and he had already planned on letting his little brother win. All these incidents and qualities made Itachi the ideal villain, but giving him a sad backstory where Kishimoto made Itachi look like a victim ruined his legacy. Furthermore, Itachi helping Sasuke to stop Kabuto during the war made things worse.

4Obito Uchiha

Obito Uchiha was responsible forstarting the Fourth Great Ninja War. He used the name of Madara Uchiha to strike fear into the hearts of the Shinobi Alliance. Obito’s plan to become the Ten-Tails jinchuriki was successful and with his newfound power, he wreaked havoc on the battlefield. Obito’s power far superseded the power of any other ninjas including Hashirama Senju, Tobirama Senju, Minato Namikaze, etc. After gaining immense power, it seemed that Obito would finally manage to achieve his goal of creating a peaceful world.

However, Naruto was ready to raze Obito’s plans with the help of his speech. After listening to Naruto, Obito decided to change his ways and turn into a good guy. This paved the way for Madara to gain the upper hand and get his chance at becoming the jinchuriki of the Ten-Tails. Obito’s reputation as a villain plummeted further when he decided to save his friend, Kakashi thus, sacrificing himself in the process.

3Orochimaru

In the first part ofNaruto, Orochimaru was easily the most fearsome villain. He had an evil aura that surrounded him, and it would genuinely scare his opponents. When he appeared in the Forest of Death, Naruto and co. were extremely frightened just by his mere presence. Although Orochimaru failed in his mission to destroythe Hidden Leaf, he managed to cause the death of Hiruzen Sarutobi.

However, as the series continued Orochimaru was almost completely sidelined, and to make things worse, he was killed by Sasuke Uchiha. Orochimaru redeemed himself during the Fourth Great Ninja War when he helped Sasuke to talk to the first four Hokage. The decline of Orochimaru as a villain is one of the biggest letdowns in the series.

2Madara Uchiha

Once a mighty ninja of the past, Madara Uchiha was born during the Warring States Period, where he lost all of his siblings. After forming the Hidden Leaf with Hashirama Senju, Madara was slowly sent over the edge by the behavior of the people inside the Hidden Leaf. His own clansmen did not support him and so, he decided to take down the Hidden Leaf on his own. Of course, Madara failed to do so, but before his death, he entrusted his dream to Obito Uchiha.

After being reanimated, Madara became the jinchuriki of the Ten-Tails and successfully cast the Infinite Tsukuyomi. Madara’s happiness did not last for long as he was betrayed by Black Zetsu and sacrificed. Kishimoto’s decision to kill Madara and make Kaguya Otsutsiki the final villain did not go down well with the fans. In addition, to removing Madara from the spotlight, Kishimoto ensured that the ninja would realize his mistakes before his death and that Madara only wanted peace above anything.

Kabuto also worked on Orochimaru’s previous experiments and made them even better.

His biggest success was the Impure World Reincarnation. With this technique, he provided Obito with countless powerful ninjas, who had died. However, after being defeated by Itachi Uchiha, Kabuto decided to change his ways. Currently, he runs an orphanage in the Hidden Leaf.
