TheNintendo Switchis one of the most successful consoles in recent memory. In its first three years,it sold 50 million consoles even faster than the PS4. However, due to the worldwide pandemic that is the coronavirus, sales have slowed down drastically.
The sales forNintendo Switchhave not been impacted due to a lack of interest in the hybrid system, but due to a shortage of supply. Nintendo’s official statement is that shipments have been delayed and that more consoles are on the way soon.

Fans around the globe have been looking for the console just as much as ever, even having to rely onprice spikes online of the Nintendo Switchdue to the shortage.
With the initial success of the Switch seemingly relying on games likeThe Legend of Zelda: Breath of the WildandSuper Mario Odyssey, some may have wondered if the console could keep it up. But massive games likeSuper Smash Bros. UltimateandPokemon Sword and Shieldhave continued to carry the torch. And now, as a game that has become one of the fastest-selling games on the planet,Animal Crossing: New Horizonshas sold 90% of its original stock in Japan, but if new fans want to jump into the fun, they may not be able to find physical copies of the game to play.
Many retailers have noted that consoles sales have gone up for the PS4 and Xbox One slightly, likely as fans have looked for the Switch and haven’t found one to buy. However, they’ve also noted that all consoles are low on stock. Many also are concerned that theremay be delays or shortages on next-gen consoles thanks to COVID-19.
Retailers have said that the Switch Lite has a somewhat higher availability. Nintendo also noted that theAnimal Crossing: New Horizonsbundle that was sold out quicklyis a part of the delayed consoles that will be available again hopefully soon.
Recently theWorld Health Organization stated that staying in and playing video games was a healthy decision, somewhat recanting an older statement. Fans would love to be able to purchase a Nintendo Switch and enjoy the massive library of games, or even buy a second one to share among the family while everyone is cooped up together. One can only hope that the situation is taken care of sooner rather than later.
