Monster Hunter Nowmay be a smaller mobile version of the mainlineMonster Huntergames, but still has the depth of the crafting system and the necessity to get specific parts for better gear.Monster Hunterplayers have always been able to freely target monster parts to break them off, but will require an automatic lock-on system in the mobile game.

Locking on to monsters inMonster Hunter Nowis not available to players from the beginning, but the ability be unlocked early on to help fight against some of the big monsters with even bigger health bars. This guide will show players how to get the lock on ability, and how to use it in the game.

How To Unlock The Lock On Ability

Players will need to craft theKulu Headpiece, an armor piece for the player’s head which contains the ability to lock onto monsters when equipped. They will then need to upgrade the piece to level five. The Grade 1 version of the Kulu Headpiece will require:

Kulu-Ya-Ku Hidecan be found by defeating the lizard/bird-likeKulu-Ya-Ku large monstersfrom the map, andMonster Bone Scan be found by tapping on the bone resource icons within the area. Players will be able to see the Kulu-Ya-Ku and bone spots outside their initial play area if there are none nearby.

When players get the Kulu Headpiece toGrade 2,this will unlock the lock on ability. It can be crafted by upgrading the headpiece to level five, which requires moreKulu-Ya-Kuparts, resources, and Zenny.Players will need to fightmore Kulu-Ya-Kubefore being able to craft the Grade 2 headpiece and equip it.

How To Lock On In Monster Hunter Now

Once playershave craftedthe Kulu Headpiece and upgraded it to Grade 2, there will be a new option within the battle screen of future monster fights. There will be aLock On iconon the lower right section of the screen, and above the first aid health potion icon.

Tap on theLock On iconand all the parts of the monsters will be highlighted on the screen. Choose which part the player character should attack, and the part will be marked bya red circle target. The character will continue to focus on the monster part while attacking orusing special skillsuntil tapping on the Lock On icon again, which the player character will then freely attack.
