With fans receiving tons of new details about the title at yesterday’s War Table broadcast,Marvel’s Avengerslooks to be taking much clearer shape on the lead up to its release. Not only did the broadcast highlight more about how the game will function, showing off how missions are selected as well as a level from the viewpoint of Thor, but it also showed off the upcoming game’s villain, with the iconicMODOKtaking center stage.
However, new details from the PlayStation Store’s listing of the title seem to indicate some troubling news for primarily offline players looking to get stuck into theEarth’s Mightiest Heroes' newest adventure. According to the game’s synopsis on the storefront, players will have to have access to the internet to begin the game’s single-player campaign.

This isn’t just PlayStation Store’s listing either, with EB Games' description of the release also featuring the statement. The game’s cover art has also been updated to feature the statement “requires internet,” so players should be wary that they’ll need to have an online connection if they want to make their way through the game’s campaign. It’s definitely a strange decision onSquare Enix’s part, especially as the game seems to be so heavily story-based, so fans will have to wait and see whether the company addresses the decision in the coming weeks.
Regardless of this strange fact, it seems fans are still excited to jump intoMarvel’s Avengers. While many are still cautious about its games as a service model - with fans concerned it will fall at the same hurdles as titles likeAnthem -it’s great to see the game will have a significant story focus and some iconic heroes. It’s not long untilMarvel’s Avengerslaunches either, with the title scheduled to make its debut on modern consoles on June 19, 2025, witha free next-generation upgrademeant to follow it in the near future.
Marvel’s Avengersreleases on September 4 for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One. PS5 and Xbox Series X versions are also in development.
