Last week, however, Xbox fans got a potential update about the current status of the next-gen console.
Last week, YouTuber and leaker Moore’s Law is Dead released a video in which he claimed that, according to insider information, the development of the next Xbox console is well behind that of its next-gen PlayStation competitor. The alleged cause is that Microsoft has delayed concluding a deal with CPU developer AMD to create new processors for the upcoming console. Most gamers are likely very familiar with AMD as it’s one of the major CPU developers, makes some ofthe best graphics cards for gaming in 2024, and previously collaborated with Xbox and PlayStation on their recent consoles.
Leaker Alleges the Next-Gen Xbox is behind PlayStation
This update is somewhat surprising as it seems to contradict other information that was inadvertently leaked last year. Last September, further legal issues with the FTC led to a separateleak of Xbox’s next-gen console plans, which included the possibility of a hybrid console and expanded use of cloud technology. These leaks also suggested that Microsoft had narrowed down its choice of processor to two options, both manufactured by AMD. If Moore’s Law is Dead is correct, the Xbox team must have had a dramatic change in plans over the last few months.
Xbox doesn’t appear to have responded to these new leaks yet, but company leadership does appear to be busy at the moment. This week,CEO Phil Spencer responded to drama regarding some Xbox games possibly going multiplatform. In this response, he promised an event to provide more information in the future. It seems that, at this event, Spencer may have to respond to other rumors regarding the status of the next Xbox console.
