Seeing as each team only has two players in Arena, as opposed to five players per team in normal games ofLeague of Legends, every player and champion has a bigger impact on the game. With this in mind, it is more important than ever to avoid champions who struggle to find success in this particular game mode.

There are a multitude of reasons why certainLeague of Legendschampions are weak in Arena, from redundant abilities such as takedown resets to ineffective 2v2 power and of course current overall weakness. While those playing for fun shouldn’t shy away from their favorite champions, players looking to climbin the new 2v2v2v2 mode should avoid playing the worst Arena champions.

7Evelynn

In a normal game ofLeagueof Legendson Summoner’s Rift, Evelynn’s strength lies in her invisibility with the power to surprise the enemy anywhere on the vast map. In Arena, however, she cannot stay hidden for long and if she does, she will leave her duo partner fighting a 1v2.

Outside of this, Evelynn is more suited to isolating a single squishy target to take down and so struggles in a 2v2 environment filled with bruisers and tanks. She is also very squishy and will find it hard to exit combat in order to heal up with her passive.

6Akshan

Even some ofthe strongest abilities inLeague of Legendsbecome redundant in the new Arena mode or at the least have their power lessened. Unfortunately for Akshan, this is the case with almost all of his abilities.

Firstly, Akshan doesn’t have any minions to extend his Avengerang through, and he only has one possible ally to revive with his ‘W’ passive ability, and even then they will spawn with less than max health. His stealth for roaming is also mostly defunct in Arena, and he can only reset his swing once per round. Lastly, Akshan struggles to find the downtime and room to use his ultimate.

5Sion

While double tank combos make up some ofthe best champion duos in Arena, at least for beginners, players should avoid taking Sion as one of their tanks. Unless Sion dies before his ally in a combat round, then he won’t get to come back as a zombie with his passive as the round would be already over. Sion also has no minions to push around and slow the enemy with by using his ‘E’ ability, and players have an easier time avoiding the knockup on his ‘Q’ ability in Arena.

OnLeague of Legend’smain maps, Summoner’s Rift, andHowling Abyss for ARAMs, Sion has plenty of long lanes and straight sections to use his ultimate. However, this is not really the case on the smaller Arena battlefields.

4Katarina

Katarina is amid laner who excels at roamingto snowball her lead, and with a kit designed around resets, she thrives against teams of five. In Arena, however, she cannot roam to other lanes nor can she take advantage of her massive AOE damage that is usually so deadly in team fights.

As an assassin, Katarina also struggles to take down many of the beefier or sustain-oriented champions that currently dominate Arena, making her one of the weakest options to pick up in the mode.

3Rammus

While a few champions known for going fast can do okay in Arena, these champions keep up their speed in combat, whereas Rammus' speed is only about getting him to the fight, something he doesn’t really need to do on such a small map. Other than this, Rammus is just relatively weak in the mode for a number of reasons.

Rammus is a great counter to full AD teams, but in a blind pick situation, he will often find himself against mostly mixed damage. He also has pretty much non-existent damage which is needed in Arena as otherwise only one other player can make up for it.

2Blitzcrank

Blitzcrank may be one ofLeague of Legends’most hated championsas players are scared of his hooks in lane, but in Arena, he is no threat at all. The reason for this is that most champions played in Arena are looking to fight, especially at melee range and so Blitzcrank hooks can actually help them.

Furthermore, after hitting or missing his hook, there isn’t much for a Blitzcrank to do until it’s back up again. He has no DPS and isn’t that tanky with no sustain and little mobility to buy time.

1Bard

Despite being one ofthe most funLeaguechampions to play, Bard is unfortunately the worst champion for Arena at the moment. While there isn’t one overwhelming reason for this, Bard is just bad across the board in the 2v2 combat rounds.

On Summoner’s Rift, Bard excels at roaming and forcing fights with a numbers advantage. But unless he hits a perfect ultimate on just one target to temporarily create a 2v1, he can’t really do this.
