By far one of the most therapeutic games to come out in 2020,Animal Crossing: New Horizonsis beloved for its simple nature, cute art style, and calming, open-ended gameplay. Withthe addition of New Year’s updates, it’s clear the game will continue to be supported in 2021.
Going beyond previous titles in the series,Animal Crossing: New Horizonsencourages players to express their creativity in designing their islands. This has manifested in everything from purely visual artistic endeavors to talk shows hosted in-game. Players are still making these re-creations, one of the most recent being the Keyblade Graveyard from theKingdom Heartsseries.

This is not the most elaborate recreation, nor is it the first to transplant another video game intoAnimal Crossing: New Horizons. Other suchcreations include an accurate Pokemon Centerset up in a building. The Keyblade Graveyard, however, is outside, recreated along the island’s beach and toured by a villager done up to look like series antagonist Xehanort. The Keyblades are made from various bits of straight decorations stuck into the ground, such as windmills, popsicles, decorative rods, and fake flowers.
The entire beach is walled off from the rest of the island with climbing walls, giving an appropriately isolated air to the area. While the various ornaments are not quite Keyblades, and the incoming waves do not match the desolation of the genuine Keyblade Graveyard, it is overall a good approximation. Most impressive are the tall rocks, created to approximate the pillars and cliffs of the Keyblade Graveyard, which are actually termite mounds in theAnimal Crossingversion. Those wishing to see the island first hand canvisit it through the dream island system, as the creator WayfinderNobody has made the code available on their reddit thread.
The Keyblade Graveyard is one of the most important locations in theKingdom Heartsseries, representing the site of the last battle between the great Keyblade wielders in a time long gone. It also served as the stage for the last battles ofKingdom Hearts 3. Despite this, the story ofKingdom Heartsis not over, withTetsuya Nomura declaring he wants to take the series in a new direction.
The news has stirred the imagination of fans of the series to a fever pitch, andKingdom Hearts 4is eagerly awaited by many. Already it is inspiring fan-work, like afan-madeKingdom Hearts 4game coverthat nails the style of previous covers.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons is exclusively available for the Nintendo Switch.
