Stardew Valley 1.6introduces the option to adopt more than one pet. However, not every farmer enjoys having a dozen animals roaming around their farm. Some may wish for a way to part ways with their companion animal without causing distress.
Now, for the good (and bad) news:Butterfly Powderis also introduced as a new item in the March 2024 update. This magical dust allows players to subtly suggest that their pet needs to find a new home. Here’s how to obtain and use this item.

How to Get Butterfly Powder
Currently, the only way to get Butterfly Powder is topurchase it from Krobus.Their shop is in the Sewers, where they sell each Butterfly Powder for 20,000g. There is no limit on how many powders you can buy, and Krobus’ inventory restocks as soon as you make a purchase.
How to Use Butterfly Powder
To permanently remove a pet inStardew Valley, sprinkle some Butterfly Powder on it. While holding the powder, interact with the animal you wish to delete. Once the powder is applied, the pet will transform into a butterfly and fly away. This effect is irreversible, and you won’t be able to revive the lost pet in this playthrough.
After using Butterfly Powder to remove a pet,you can also get rid of itspet house and bowl. Simply talk to Robin, the Carpenter, who offers a removal service for these farm structures at a low price.

Prior to v1.6, you could get rid of your spouse and children through divorce orthe Dark Shrine of Selfishness. However, there was no method for losing your pets. To fix this, the March update added Butterfly Powder, a quick tool to rearrange yourfarm animalsand delete unwanted pets.
Butterfly Powder Alternative
Instead of removing your pet with Butterfly Powder, you have the option to change its appearance. By visiting the Wizard’s basement and interacting with hisShrine of Illusions, you may alter a pet’s variant. However, note that the tomb won’t allow you to switch between different species. For instance, if you have a cat, you can change its appearance from white to black, but you won’t be able to transform it into a dog.
