Horizon Forbidden Westhad plenty of new and returning characters that Aloy was able to interact with and fight alongside. From her close friends like Erend and Varl to some of her most memorable enemies and rivals such as Sylens, HADES, and Regalla, the Horizon franchise has not had a shortage of great characters. However, two key characters who become allies with Aloy and assist her in the fight against the Far Zeniths, Alva and Kotallo, are often left out asHorizon Forbidden Westexplores the evolving relationship of Aloy and her older friends.

Both Alva and Kotallo are not only valuable allies for their abilities and knowledge, but also for the role they play in convincing their respective tribes to fight alongside Aloy. While the Quen were not nearly as involved as the Tenakth, their importance may shine through in either the upcomingHorizon Forbidden WestDLC,Burning Shores, or in the sequel as Aloy and her friends prepare to fight NEMESIS. Whatever way this is handled, seeing more of Alva and Kotallo will not only allow players to gain more knowledge of their characters but also give them insights into how the two tribes function.

Alva and Kotallo

Alva is a diviner of the Quen tribe, a member responsible for collecting knowledge about the Old Ones using her focus. As a diviner, Alva is one of the few people in the Quen allowed to use a focus, however, her focus was notably outdated when Aloy meets her for the first time. Her eventual friendship with Aloy led her to join forces with the group as theymounted their final assault on the Far Zeniths, with Alva given the task to infiltrate the base with Kotallo and find any information about what Tilda van der Meer may be hiding from her allies.

While Alva was first encountered closer to the end of Horizon Forbidden West, Kotallo was introduced much earlier as one of the Tenakth Marshals. As a Marshal, Kotallo is a fierce and capable warrior and a trusted ally to the Tenakth Chief Hekarro.Following an injury that cost him his arm during Regalla’s attack, he left behind the rank of Marshal and decided to join Aloy and her allies, helping them gain the trust of the other Tenakth tribes.

The Tenakth and Quen

Both the Tenakth and the Quen will likely be vital for the fight against NEMESIS, the former for their battle prowess and experience with battling machines, the latter for their knowledge of the Old Ones. The Tenakth will be able to provide Aloy and her allies with not only weapons but likely also an army of warriors led by the new Marshals. Their rivalry with the Sundom may also play a big role inHorizon Forbidden West’s sequel with Aloy attempting to manage the rocky relations betweenthe tribes as they prepare to fight NEMESIS.

The Quen may not be able to put forward the same caliber of warriors as the Tenakth, but they may hold something even more important, information. The Quen are arguably the most knowledgeable tribe when it comes to the Old Ones following the efforts they have made to catalog any information about the former residents of the planet. With the vast knowledge that the Quen have collected,Aloy may be able to find something that could help her stop NEMESISor even put up an army of machines designed by the Old Ones using GAIA and her subordinate functions.

How Horizon Sequels Can Devote Time To Alva and Kotallo

Both Alva and Kotallo have a lot to offer theHorizon Forbidden Westsequels apart from their relationships with their respective tribes. For one, both could have specialized missions or side activities that could bolster Aloy’s impressive arsenal. Kotallo’s missions could be aimed toward giving Aloy upgrades to her weapons or tools by helping her complete certain tasks forTenakth members and giving her access to legendary weapons.

On the other hand, Alva could greatly assist Aloy’s quest of finding Old One’s ruins which could hold some information about NEMESIS or the Far Zeniths. More importantly, her knowledge of the Old Ones could lead to the easier discovery of Cauldrons, allowing Aloy to gain access to many machine overrides without needing to explore every inch of the map. Further,if Aloy were to travel across the oceanand explore the Quen’s lands in theHorizon Forbidden Westsequel, her role would be vital as Aloy will need to gain the trust of the tribe before she has access to their vast knowledge.

Alva and Kotallo are just two of the many great characters inHorizon Forbidden West, however, the small amount of time they spend on the screen leaves an air of mystery around them. Exploring these characters in the sequel, or even theBurning ShoresDLC, could help players connect better with them, and evenhelp Aloy find better weapons, or gain access to Cauldrons quicker. As NEMESIS continues to approach Earth, Aloy will need the help of all her allies to prevent the destruction of the planet in theHorizon Forbidden Westsequel.
