Marvel’s Avengersis looking to be a solid new entry in thesuperhero genre of video games, but recent controversy has placed it on thin ice. It was recently revealed that Spider-Man would be added as a character in 2021, but only for PlayStation players. This understandably led to frustration from fans.

There’s a long history of platform exclusive content in third party games, and as a general rule fans don’t like it. In the case ofMarvel’s Avengers, even some PlayStation users find the decision a bit uncouth, as they feel players shouldn’t get different experiences solely because of which console they play on.

This frustration has sparked a lot of things from within the community, but perhaps one of the most entertaining responses comes in the form of a meme about the issue. This image perfectly encapsulates fan frustration about theexclusivity of Spider-Man inMarvel’s Avengers.

The meme shows two versions of theiconic scene fromCaptain America: Civil War, in which the two sides of the argument line up on opposite ends of an airport before fighting. The first image is notably lacking Spider-Man, and is meant to represent the experience players will get on Xbox, while the second image is what fans of the MCU expect to see. This puts things into perspective for those that might not understand the frustration fans are feeling, as it would be completely lame if an entire character was missing from a movie depending on where fans watched it, and the same holds true forMarvel’s Avengers.

It’s also worth pointing out that the Xbox representation ofCivil Warin the meme is significantly lower quality, whereas the PlayStation version appears in its original state. Some in the comments suggest that this could be a low key dig at the Xbox, possibly in reference toHalo Infinite’s lacklustre graphics, but even if that is the case it isn’t relevant to the meme. Ironically, of the six characters shown in the image, only half of them are actually going to be in the game as War Machine, Black Panther, and Vision aren’t going to be playable characters at first.

Crystal Dynamics has stated thatSpider-Man’s exclusivity is a result of the existing agreements between Sony and Marvel, so there wasn’t much that could be done to avoid this. Thankfully, it has also stated that Spider-Man will be the only console exclusive hero in the game.

Marvel’s Avengersreleases on September 4th for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One, and later on PS5 and Xbox Series X.
