Nintendo’s last console, the Wii U, has begun trending on Twitter this morning. For those wondering why, it has something to do with the recent reveal ofPikmin 3 Deluxecoming to the Nintendo Switch.
In case anyone missed the news, yes,Pikmin 3is getting the Deluxe treatment, just like so many other Wii U titles that have been ported to the hybrid console over the span of the past three years:New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Pokken Tournament DX, and the list goes on.

So why is theWii Utrending then? To be frank, some Wii U owners are feeling a bit betrayed. Many Twitter users have noted that Nintendo has removedPikmin 3from the Wii U’s Eshop, essentially forcing those with Wii U consoles to purchase the upcoming Switch version in order to experience the original title. This can be seen as a smart business decision on Nintendo’s side, but also “anti-consumer,” as some of the Twitter users have stated.
Some fans are also frustrated that the title will be launching at a $60 price tag, while the original Wii U title can be found used for as cheap as $20. For a port of a seven-year-old game, $60 does seem a bit steep.New Super Mario Bros. U DeluxeandDonkey Kong Country: Tropical Freezewere both guilty of this as well, charging the same amount of money for an old game (in fact,Tropical Freezewas originally only $50 on Wii U).
Not all fans are annoyed however, as some are speculating thatPikmin 3’s port to Switch may mean that the rest of the Wii U’s library will inevitably follow, with only a handful of Wii U games remaining. The most notable games left areXenoblade Chronicles X,theZeldaHD Remasters, and of courseSuper Mario 3D World.
All three of these games have been heavily requested by fans for quite some time, with rumors floating around in regards to a port of3D Worldalongside theother 3D Mario titles as part of Mario’s 35th anniversary. Fans have also been asking for a port ofWind Waker HDandTwilight Princess HDfor quite a while, with the titles seeming more and more likely as time has gone by. EvenXenoblade Chronicles Xseems likely at this point, with the franchise’sfirst entry getting an HD remasterearlier this year.
Pikmin 3 Deluxelaunches on June 12, 2025 exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
