Halo Infinite’s multiplayer is now available, launched by surprise in celebration of the 20th anniversary of both Xbox and theHalofranchise. Response to the newHalo’s multiplayer has been robustly positive, but with sharp criticisms. 343 has been quick to respond regarding some of these complaints, like with the frustration overHalo Infinite’s battle pass. Other criticism, however, has gone unaddressed. One of the biggest frequent focuses of the community isHalo Infinite’s lack of player collision.
A clip capturing what players are taking issue with recently went viral in Reddit’sHalocommunity, garnering over 20 thousand upvotes. The clip shows a player using camouflage to sneak up on an opponent, only for the opponent to back up through the player as an assassination is attempted. The opponent slides through the player and then guns them down. With full player collision, the opponent would have bumped into the player and themelee assassinationwould have gone through as expected.

The comments on the Reddit thread include examples ofhow silly thisHalo Infiniteissue can be. Players are talking about being able to perform consequent assassinations, a move requiring a player to melee their opponent’s back, because both players clip far enough through each other to target each other’s back. Similarly, some players mention meleeing an opponent from the front and getting an assassination due to slight clipping.
What’s especially odd about the situation is thatHalo Infinitedoes feature player collisionwith opponents. It’s only turned off for allies. However, player collision still feels like it isn’t working as intended, as the clip presents. Players still seemingly glide through their opponents as if they weren’t there. Either player models don’t have full collision or there’s a latency-related problem tied to player collision, with the confusion around the issue only exacerbating it.
It remains entirely unclear why 343 decided not to include full player collision for both allies and opponents inHalo Infinite. It’s a popular feature with a long history inHalo, and players have vocally supported its inclusiongoing back intoHalo Infinite’s betas. At this time, however, there are no confirmed plans to bring it back.
While 343 has yet to acknowledge the conversation surroundingHalo Infinite’s player collision, it’s important to keep in mind that multiplayer only launched this past week. 343 still has plenty of time to evaluate and reconsider its decision, something it’s already done withHalo Infinite’s battle passes. If players are insistent that collision return, then 343 will undoubtedly have no choice but to deliver.
Halo Infinitemultiplayer is available now on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
