There are a lot of expectations forHades 2. The sequel to the massively successful roguelike game,Hades, willcenter around Melinoe, the Princess of the Underworld and the daughter of Hades and Persephone. Unlike the first game though, she has her sights set on defeating the Titan of Time, Chronos, who appears to have kidnapped Hades.

According to Supergiant Games,Hades 2will have a large focus on the witchcraft that exists in the original Greek mythology, which will play a role in Melinoe’s weapons and combat mechanics. Her mentor is also Hecate, the goddess of magic and witchcraft. The Olympians Zeus and Apollo, along with a host of other new characters, will also help Melinoe in the fight against Chronos. Plus, with the Titan of Time said to be waging war against the Underworld and Mount Olympus, it might be high time forHades 2to introduce a much-requested location.

Melinoe Goes to Olympus?

In the firstHadesgame, Zagreus wasn’t able to visit Olympus despite the many invitations he’d gotten from the gods. One would guess it was because, like Hades, he couldn’t leave the Underworld, as well as the underlying plot. Whenever he escaped to the surface to meet with his mother Persephone, he would die after a few minutes. Perhaps that would be the case if he tried visiting Olympus as well. It’s also believed thatZagreus retired from escaping the Underworldafter the events ofHades.

But Melinoe is different from her brother. In Greek mythology, she’s a nymph who walked the earth with ghosts and brought night terrors to mortals. This could mean that Melinoe spent most of her life on the surface rather than in the Underworld. This would be a useful detail forHades 2as it might make it easier for her to access Olympus.

Although there’s limited information about Melinoe potentially visiting or living in Olympus, Supergiant Games could definitely introduce a hub there.Hades 2has a lot to live up to with howrich and colorful Zagreus' Underworld homewas in the first game. It would make sense if the next one will be in Olympus, where Melinoe could interact with the gods and plan out how they can defeat Chronos. However, the gods might also be hesitant to help Hades since they’re not on good terms, so that might be a plot point in various conversations too.

On the other hand, if Olympus won’t beHades 2’s home hub, it could still be a map that Melinoe could explore and fight enemies in. It could also have a stopover similar to Eurydice and Patroclus' areas inHades, where Melinoe could receive items and buffs from certain characters. She could build friendships and accomplish missions for them as well.

Supergiant Games previously revealed portions ofHades 2’s locations, which are said to be set in the Underworld again. But given what some people know about Melinoe, it’s also possible that there would be an area set in the mortal realm. Melinoe’s background story may be limited in Greek mythology, but there are a lot of possibilities that Supergiant Games could capitalize on forHades 2while still staying somewhat true to the original source. The introduction of Olympus and an in-depth look at the mortal realm in the sequel would be the logical step as the game highlights thebattle against Chronos and possibly the other Titans.

Hades 2is still in early development. Supergiant Games could still surprise players with plot twists, likefacing Zagreus in a boss battle, and new features that will make the sequel unique. For now,Hadesfans will have to wait for the early access version to launch to get their first taste of the story.
