Summary
Fans have discovered a fun little Easter egg regardingGuilty Gear Strive’s first Season 3 DLC character, Johnny, where it gives him facial hair. Guilty Gear Strive is still going strong with three seasons of DLC, with its second season wrapping up earlier this year. The second season pass comprised a variety of returning and new fighters, which included Sin Kiske, Bridget, and Bedman(?), along withthe final character being Asuka R#, all of who were highly requested fighters. Arc System Works was quick to confirm the third season pass, with the first character of this season having been revealed earlier this August at the premiere fighting game tournament, EVO.
Before the top six finals ofStrive, Arc System Works revealed that Johnny,a highly requestedGuilty Gearfighter, would be coming to the game on August 24. Johnny is the leader of the Jellyfish Pirates, the same group that May is a part of, and has been a regular character in the series ever since the very first game. His latest playable appearance in the series was as a DLC character forGuilty Gear Xrdand its re-release,Rev 2. With him coming toStrive, some fans have gotten the chance to play as him early, with some finding out a feature that Arc System Works implemented to change his look.

This discovery was made at another fighting game convention, VSFightingXI, where players got a chance to try outGuilty Gear Strive’s latest changes for Season 3 in person. Those in attendance, like Twitter user MysticSmash, got the chance to try out Johnny’s kit, where they then tried messing around on the character select screen with him. If a player presses up while Johnny is highlighted, he’ll have an alternate skin where he has a full-grown beard. Many fans were excited to see this Easter egg, with some thinking he rocks the look.
This bearded look may be lost on newer fans of the series, with some wondering when thisfan-favoriteGuilty Gearcharacterever had facial hair. Some commenters have pointed out that this look could have derived from Johnny’s appearance inGuilty Gear Vastedge XT, a Japan-only slot machine visual novel game that was released on pachinko and mobile devices. That game did feature Johnny with a beard, though this iteration has been updated with his latest character model.
Johnny is being billed as one ofGuilty Gear Strive’s beginner-friendly characters, where he’s classified as “Easy-to-Use” by Arc System Works. This third season pass will contain four characters in total, with the second one also coming in 2023. The pass will be rounded out with the last two arriving sometime next year. This pass will also add new color costumes, gameplay changes, and two additional stages.
Guilty Gear Striveis available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
