God of War Ragnarokwas officially revealed during the2020 PlayStation 5 Showcase Event, and it was eventually slated for a late 2022 release and would wrap up the Norse Mythology storyline set up in the previous game. As it turned out, however, the game wasn’t a smooth ride for everyone involved. In a recent interview, Eric Williams admitted that even up until three months beforeGod of War Ragnarokwas released, the developers were concerned that the game was not good. Furthermore, he couldn’t even imagine what they felt now.

It’s funny, because for some people, the game will come out on 9 November, and on 10 November, they’re gonna be like, “What’s next?” Everybody wants to take a break, but really they’re like, “We’ve got to start building.” When you work with people that are at the apex of what they do, you’re going to get magic. I just came from a room with those people. All I could say to them was, “Thank you.” They were freaking out three months ago, “Holy crap, the game’s not good. What are we going to do?” I can’t even imagine how they feel today. I wish I had a time machine to go back and feel like that.

Like many games,God of War Ragnarokhas had its fair share of troubles during its development cycle. The exact details of what went into the game’s development will probably remain unknown to the public, but enough stories have leaked out over the years. The developers have received death threats from angry fans, Atreus' voice had to be edited due to the change in Sunny Suljic’s voice, andGod of War Ragnarokwas subjected to a massive leaklate last month. However, for the time being, it appears that the hard work of the developers has paid off.

As of this writing, the game has a 94 Metacritic score with somereviewers callingGod of War Ragnaroka once-in-a-generation game. Currently, it remains to be seen whether any of the fears of the developers will be confirmed by the general public, but for now, it appears that Santa Monica Studio may have put together yet another masterpiece that involves slaying gods.

God of War Ragnarokwill be available on November 9 on PS4 and PS5.
