With the Norse-focused reboot ofGod of Warhaving been out for over three years now, players are familiar with the twist regarding Kratos’ son Atreus. While it will be interesting to see Atreus’ transformation into the Trickster God Loki, it seems like theGod of WarandMCUversions of the character are already similar in one specific way.
Obviously, the similarity in question is just a coincidence, as Marvel’s take on Norse mythology is hugely different fromGod of War’s. After all, Santa Monica has already received criticism fromMCUfans aboutthe look of Thor, as he looks much more like the version discussed in the mythology than the chiseled hero that fans have come to know and love. Still, while it was surely not intended on the part of Santa Monica, the Loki similarity makes for a fun meme regardless.

Shared by Redditor agentofmidgard, the first two photos making up the image show Atreus’ attempts to kill Modi, the son of Thor. Modi provoked Atreus several times, with the young boy being naive enough to think he could take on Modi in a one-on-one fight. He charged Modi with a knife on two different occasions, even though the small dagger was unlikely to do the trick. The final image showstheMCU’s Lokifailing to take down Thanos with a knife, showing that both characters tend to attack stronger foes with a small blade.
Hilariously, agentofmidgard titles the post “the kid should stop attacking bosses with knives,” a nod to Modi’s boss battle and Thanos’ status as the final villain of the Infinity Saga. While there are a few other connections between the two versions of Loki, such as their temperament and a deep love for their deceased mothers, their shared arrogance and usage of daggers in their fights is a bit more on the nose. While it remains to be seen if any more similarities betweenGod of War’s Lokiand theMCUversion are seen inGod of War Ragnarok, this image highlighting their shared failure is lots of fun.
With over 1,700 upvotes and tons of positive comments, it seems liketheGod of Warcommunityhas gotten a kick out of the fan’s comparison. Some commenters, like LupusDeusMagnus, focus on how Atreus could benefit from a proper side weapon. Others, like xkingmox, would like to see a fight between Kratos and the Mad Titan Thanos. WithGod of War’s Shattered Gauntlet of Ages being a clear nod to Marvel’s Infinity Gauntlet, Thanos would have the perfect item to hunt for within theGod of Waruniverse.
Since aGod of Warcrossoverwith theMCUwill surely never happen, comparisons like this will be the closest players get. Still, with a new game on the way, fans will have the chance to point out more fun coincidences like this one.
God of Waris available now on PC and PS4.
