When it comes to franchise crossovers,Fortniteis second to none in the video game realm. Players have seen major sports leagues like the NBA and NFL, gaming and film icons likeHalo’s Master Chief and the titularJohn Wick, and a plethora of other skins and content from outside IP. While the majority of these crossovers happen with new entities each time,Fortniteis going back to a fairly recent one inStreet Fighter.
The ever-popular battle royale title from Epic Games already has a few of the biggest names from theStreet Fighterroster in the game. Towards the end ofFortnite’s Chapter 2 Season 5, atrailer featuring Ryu and Chun-Li skinsleaked online, showing Jonesy rift portal into the iconic Capcom fighter, then teleporting the pair to the island.Fortniteconfirmed the crossover shortly after, and it looks like its trying to be ahead of the curve this time around.

Posted onto the officialFortniteTwitter account, a new image has appeared depicting the same arcade cabinet featured in the Ryu and Chun-Li trailer. However, rather than revealing any one specific fighter, the image is of a Player Select screen, with theFortniteBattle Bus somewhere over Eastern Europe. The screen appears to be pulled fromSuper Street Fighter 2, indicating it should be someone from the fan-favorite game, although further details revealing which exact characters will be crossing over remain scant. The only detail provided is the post’s caption of “Here comes two new challengers,” which could essentially mean any two fighters.
While a pair of new characters fromStreet Fighterhas many fans excited, they aren’t the only new skins coming to the game from a major franchise. Starting today, players can get their hands on the newBloodsport skin from the filmThe Suicide Squad. Bloodsport actor himself Idris Elba introduced the new skin, which looks like it was ripped straight out of the upcoming DCEU movie.
As mentioned before, this isn’t the first timeStreet Fighterhas crossed over with the battle royale game, but many fans are left scratching their heads as to why the fighting game collaborates with a game likeFortnite, and not something more sensibly in its genre, likeMortal KombatorTekken. According to a recent tweet from the former’s creator, Ed Boon, creating such a title from two separate game publishers “adds complexity,” with each game having varied mechanics. That’s not to say it isn’t impossible, however.Tekken’s director recently announcedthe highly-anticipatedTekken X Street Fighterisn’t canceled, just on a developmental hiatus.
While theStreet Fightertease is a somewhat vague one, more details should soon be revealed. In the meantime, players can check outthe new Grab-itron weapon, which looks like something straight out ofHalf-Life 2.
Fortniteis available for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
