Right now, many in the game industry are still reeling fromthe delay ofStarfield. This leaves a huge hole in November, something practically unheard of in the industry. Now, it stands to reason thatPokemon Scarlet and Violet, as well asCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, are likely eyeballing a November release, but nothing else has been set up as THE game of the season likeStarfield.

This is not to say that there are great games scheduled for the end of the year, just that there are a lot of big games that could fill this spot that fans want to know about.Final Fantasy 16,God of War: Ragnarok, Avatar: The Frontiers of Pandora, andHogwarts Legacyall come to mind as potential games of the fall. WhileFinal Fantasy 16could prove to be a 2023 title, there is some reason to believe that fans could see it next month—hopefully includingFinal Fantasy 16’s release dateas either this year or early next year.

New Final Fantasy 16 Trailer

The next entry in the long-running and beloved JRPG franchise has been quiet since its reveal. There is some art, some lore, and one trailer out there about the game, but that’s it. Producer Yoshi-P recently commented, however, that not only is the game close to the finish line, but thenextFinal Fantasy 16traileris ready to go. He said he thinks fans can expect to see it “soon,” which should also line up with Square Enix’s general promise of more info this spring.

Yet, this poses two questions: when is soon? Why is Square Enix holding back theFinal Fantasy 16trailer? While it’s just a rumor at this point and should thus be taken with a grain of salt, the fact that many believe aState of Play is happening in the first week of Junebodes well for this.Final Fantasy 16is a timed PS5 exclusive, and it would make sense if Sony wanted its new trailer at its showcase. There are a lot of behind-the-scenes conundrums and possibilities, but if all the stars align, this makes a lot of sense.

A State of Play is believed to take place in the first week of June, although this is merely a rumor. The first week of June is relatively “soon.” The first week of June is still part of spring. Sony would likely wantFinal Fantasy 16’s next revealto be part of its showcase. It adds up, even if a lot of it is circumstantial and speculative at best.

WhetherFinal Fantasy 16becomes THE game of the season or if that title goes to something likeGod of War: Ragnarokremains to be seen, but many are hoping that the various showcases happening in June will fill out the remainder of the year.
