Fallout 4is one of theFalloutgames that Bethesda Games Studios created for the franchise. When it was released back in 2015, players will still playing on older generation consoles, not the ones available in the modern day. This meant that players would need toutilize mods in order to create a game with amazing graphics.

In April 2024, Bethesdareleased an update for the gamethat allowed modern consoles to expand upon the game and create a modern experience while playing. With the next-gen update, the game now has a performance and quality mode. Here’s a breakdown of these modes so players can figure out which on is best for their playthrough.

What Is Performance Mode In Fallout 4?

Performance mode is what players should pick if they are wanting to prioritize their FPS. This will ensure that the FPS is as high as it can be while not focusing as much on the resolution. This mode will rely upon the dynamic resolution scaling of modern consoles to create a1440p experience with 60 FPS, which is higher than quality mode (though the dynamic resolution scaling can cause this resolution to decrease at times). However, the graphics will stay at the standard area rather than at ultra.

What Is Quality Mode In Fallout 4?

Quality mode is focused more on the quality of the graphics while running the game. Players will be able to play the game in4K while running at 30 FPS, allowing there to be more room for the visuals to shine at the cost of some frames. Players will notice that when playing in this setting, the graphics will be set to ultra, which ensures that players will see some amazing visuals while playing.

If players have a 120hz monitor or TV, they will be able to active the 120hz setting on the console (only PS5 and Xbox Series X, the Series S doesn’t do this; instead, it just upscales the visuals to fit the resolution), which will allow the game to run at40 FPSduring gameplay.

Quality Or Performance Mode, Which Is Best?

The truth is, this is honestly pretty much up to the player. Some players prefer to have a higher FPS and don’t care much about the extra visuals. In that case, performance mode is best. If players would prefer to see the extra visuals and don’t care much about the frames, then quality is the best option. Overall, playing the quality mode on a 120hz screen is probably the best performance that players will obtain.
