Even though there are some aspects ofBorderlands 3that weren’t well-received by its fanbase, there were a lot of interesting developments revealed in the installment. Particularly, there seems to be a lot ofnew information about the Siren lore.
Unfortunately, there were also some issues with the Sirens such as the appearance of Ava inBorderlands 3. The youngest Siren, at the moment, didn’t make a good first impression among fans. Nevertheless, there are still many cliffhangers in terms of the narrative regarding Sirens.

Why Was Troy Calypso a Siren?
One of the biggest surprises of the latestBorderlandsinstallment was Troy Calypso appearing as a Siren. Although this was justified by saying that he acquired the power by being born aconjoined twin of the Siren Tyreen, it is not at all clear why he kept the power after the twins were separated.
The odd decision to have a male Siren was somewhat understandable given the twins’ backstory. Furthermore, the decision to haveTroy leech off Tyreen’s powersto survive served to keep what is known about the Siren’s lore. This is because since there are not supposed to be any male Sirens and Troy is one, it is expected that there would be some sort of repercussion.

However, the Troy Calypso case is still sui generis. After killing Maya, Troy manages to acquire her powers, allowing him to finally step out of his sister’s shadow. But how exactly was he able to absorb Maya’s powers? This means that the ability to leech was Troy’s all along which is odd given how he was not supposed to be a Siren.

What is the Link Between Athenas and the Sirens?
Maya’s story revealed a lot ofinformation about the Siren loresince her upbringing connects a lot of aspects that are important to understand Sirens in general. She was raised on the planet Athenas where she was used to foster fear among the population and keep them in check.
One of the main features of Athenas is its Eridian vault. TheBorderlandssaga has established that there is a deep connection between Sirens and Eridium.Sirens can use Eridium to amplify their powers, although this could affect them in the long run. Sirens can become addicted to Eridium and end up dying if they stop consuming it.

Still, there is yet a lot to be discovered about the Eridian civilization. How are they tied to Athenas and the Sirens? Do the Sirens have a link with Athenas specifically? Perhaps there is more to know about the planet andthe nextBorderlandsgameswill reveal the real importance of Athenas.

How is the Seer Tied to the Sirens?
As part of theDirector’s Cut, there’s a fight against an enigmatic character known as The Seer. What makes The Seer so interesting is the relation between this foe and the Vault Hunters, particularly the Sirens. It appears thatThe Seer had been manipulating charactersand is aware of their fate.
In theMysteriouslier: Horror of Scryer’s Crypt quest, Ava seeks The Seer to ask about Maya’s and Lilith’s fateful endings. Apparently, Lillith’s actions were not part of what The Seer has foreseen, altering The Seer’s expected outcome. The Seer then decides to kill all the Sirens because they are too powerful and not easily manipulated.
This raises the question about what makes Sirens so special that they are not susceptible toThe Seer’s manipulationsin the same way other characters are. Could there be something more special about the Sirens that has not been explained so far? It seems like these questions will only be answered in futureBorderlandsinstallments.
Borderlands 3is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
