Whenever one puts together a list of most-wanted DLC characters forSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate, Sora fromKingdom Heartsis likely to make an appearance. TheKingdom Heartsfranchise’s impressive legacy and the fact that many games in the series have appeared on Nintendo consoles makes Sora an obvious choice for a DLC character, but it’s never come to pass. However, it turns out that Sora’s absence fromSuper Smash Bros.isn’t due to a lack of trying on Nintendo’s part.

This revelation comes courtesy of former Game Informer editor Imran Khan, speaking on the Kinda Funny Gamescast. Apparently, Nintendo has approached Disney aboutadding Sora to theSuper Smash Bros.roster(not necessarily forSuper Smash Bros. Ultimatespecifically), but Disney Japan is preventing it from happening for whatever reason. Additional details on the situation are unavailable at the time of this writing.

ForSuper Smash Bros.fans hoping to see Sora inSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate, this is disappointing news for sure. Assuming Khan’s information is accurate, it means that Sora can be ruled out as a possibility for theSuper Smash Bros. UltimateFighters Pass Vol. 2, which plans on adding six more characters to the game between now and the end of 2021.

To date, none of theSuper Smash Bros. UltimateFighters Pass Vol. 2 characters have been confirmed. However, we do know that they have been finalized by Nintendo, so fan demand won’t be able to will any other new fighters in existence.

Super Smash Bros. UltimateFighters Pass 1 consisted of a variety of characters, many of which were third-party. It included Joker fromPersona 5, Terry Bogard of SNK fame, and even the Microsoft-owned characters Banjo and Kazooie as a duo. The finalSuper Smash Bros. UltimateFighters Pass 1 DLC character was revealed to beByleth fromFire Emblem: Three Houses, who was met with a mixed reaction from the community.

Considering the backlash to Byleth being the finalSuper Smash Bros. UltimateDLC fighter, it seems unlikely that anyFire Emblemcharacters will be included in Fighters Pass Vol. 2. However, fans will just have to stay tuned to learn more.
