Diablo 4will keep its open world experience free of unnecessary chores, as Altars of Lilith will persist across seasons. With the Open Beta in late March concluded, player feedback onDiablo 4was received loud and clear by Blizzard Entertainment, and the developers have begun to add the final touches toDiablo 3’s successor. Though the user interface inDiablo 4won’t receive extensive changes before launch, quality of life improvements such as a font change or shifting the chat window to the left have elicited an overwhelmingly positive response from the community.

The open world inDiablo 4is a first for the saga, and the public beta testing weekends have allowed fans to traverse the Fractured Peaks of Sanctuary in a way that was breathtakingly cinematic and painstakingly handmade. The dungeons inDiablo 4remain procedurally generated, and the zones featured in the open world boast plenty of events that other players can join. In addition to these events, each Region inDiablo 4also features Altars of Lilith, a way to reward players for exploration by increasing the attributes of all characters on their Battle.net account for every altar found.

It didn’t take long for fans to document all theAltars of Lilith inDiablo 4’s Fractured Peaks, and though their progress won’t carry over to launch, a recent interview with Inven revealed that players won’t have to rediscover the altars every time a new season debuts. Game Director Joseph Piepiora went on to say that the Renown system inDiablo 4had tools in place to make sure it was as non-repeated as possible.

Though players will need to relearn their skill points and upgrade their potions again to tackle theendgame ofDiablo 4in a new season, the community seems excited about the direction of the game, despite its misgivings aboutDiablo 4’s itemization system. Much likeDiablo 3, the Legendary powers inDiablo 4will substantially increase the potency of class skills – yet unlikeDiablo 3, players will be able to obtain Legendary powers for use by completing specific dungeons scattered throughout the world.

The plot and atmosphere inDiablo 4evoke the tone ofDiablo 2, and the overarching conflict between Inarius and Lilith has potential to become one of the best stories Blizzard has ever told. Set fifty years after the events inReaper of Souls, players will find themselves in an almost post-apocalyptic version of Sanctuary, mentored by the now-grizzled Lorath Nahr. For players wanting to discover more about thetimeline leading up toDiablo 4, Blizzard has released a brief history of Sanctuary covering all the major events that play a factor in the game’s story.

Diablo 4is set to launch on June 6 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
