Many veteranDestinyfans were hopeful thatDestiny 2had a surprise waiting for those who could go Flawless in Trials of Osiris, the PvP pinnacle activity returning from the original game. But as more and more players went Flawless throughout the first day of Trials of Osiris and got theirloot from Flawless chest in the Lighthouse, the truth became clear: Adept weapons do not exist in the game.

Back inDestiny 1,Adept weaponswere alternate versions of the Trials of Osiris weapons, identified by “(Adept)” at the end of the name of the weapon, which had a different cosmetic treatment, elemental damage, and an intrinsic perk like Snapshot or Last Resort. Last Resort gave the weapon faster handling and reload speed when a player was the last Guardian standing in a match, a very Trials-specific perk.

ManyDestiny 2players who played the first game and experienced Adept weapons were hoping that developer Bungie was keeping Adept weapons a secret, not mentioning them in any of the promotional material for Season of the Worthy and keeping them hidden in the database so dataminers couldn’t find them. But that was not the case. The database was accurate all along and the reason Adept weapons weren’t discovered was because they were never there at all.

And that is being viewed by many players as a major miss. Adept weapons were a major pursuit in Trials of Osiris, and considering that the only Trials of Osiris gear that comes from the Flawless chest in the Lighthouse is armor with the weapons rotating weekly, the Trials of Osiris loot poolfeels a lot shallower than it did initially.

Another reason the absence of Adept weapons is disappointing, ina season that already seems underwhelming for many players, is thatDestiny 2adds a new perk this season on the Trials of Osiris weapons that seems tailor-made to be an intrinsic perk on Adept weapons. The perk is called Celerity, and it is only available on Trials of Osiris weapons as a random roll. Similar to the Last Resort perk fromDestiny 1but better, Celerity increases target acquisition, handling, and reload speed, while reducing flinch from incoming fire. Many fans wish Celerity was an intrinsic perk on Adept versions of the Trials weapons, gained by going Flawless.

But, unfortunately, that is not the case. Players can continue to search for random rolls of the Trials weapons by playing Trials and turning in Trials Tokens (whichBungie issued a warning about to make sure players don’t lose them), including that Celerity perk, but Flawless players won’t be pulling Adept weapons from the Lighthouse chest anytime soon.

Destiny 2is available now for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
