Destiny 2’s Season of the Haunted is coming to a close, and players are now enjoying a moment of respite from the ongoing war between Light and Darkness that heavily influenced the past few Seasons. Season 18 will feature the highly anticipated Arc 3.0 update alongside more sandbox changes to both PvE and PvP, possibly adding several intrinsic anti-Champion modifiers to existing Exotic weapons. However, the themes of Season 18 and Season 19 remain a mystery at this stage, and this also applies to the upcomingLightfall expansion, which should hit the stores by the end of February of next year if no delays occur.

ManyDestiny 2fans expected Lightfall news on Bungie Day, the recurring anniversary of Bungie’s foundation in July 1991, but the company didn’t have any sort of announcement planned for that date.Bungie’s silence on Lightfallis understandable because of the recent harassment issues that its developers are facing, and it also makes sense because players don’t yet know what the Seasons that precede the expansion are going to be about. However, a new announcement is on its way, and Bungie employees are already hyping it up on social media.

Today, the officialDestiny 2Twitter account released a new teaser trailer for the upcoming Lightfall announcement, revealing that the presentation will go live on August 23. August 23 is also the day that Season 18 launches, and it’s very close in time to last year’s presentation right before the release of Season of the Lost and the official reveal of The Witch Queen campaign. Although this teaser doesn’t show anything new, as it shifts from image to image, depicting the locations and characters that defined the recent history ofDestiny 2, the caption is “Witness what’s next.”

The Witness is the main identifiable villain ofDestiny 2at the moment, and they speak throughout the video the same words told at the end of The Witch Queen campaign. Even though it has been theorized that The Witness is the ultimate big bad of the Light and Darkness saga, Lightfall is very clearly going to involve a confrontation with this being – which the expansion’s name makes all the more ominous. Like last year, it’s possible that on August 23 Bungie will reveal both the content of Season 18 and tease Lightfall with a new trailer.

In the meantime, players can enjoy the Solstice event for the remainder of Season of the Haunted, which will conclude on August 16, a week before the start of the new Season and the reveal of Lightfall. Currently, there is aglitch that allowsDestiny 2players to complete Bonfire Bash quicklyand get more rewards, and Bungie hasn’t acknowledged it yet.

Destiny 2is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
