Summary

Destiny 2has been on a recent trend of adding at least one new Exotic weapon in each of the past few Seasons. In addition toDestiny 2’s existing Exotic weapons, there is an impressively large catalog of Exotic weapons available by now.

Most ofDestiny 2’s Exotic weaponslive up to their name by having an Exotic Catalyst that boosts certain stats or adds new utility altogether to the already powerful weapons. However, some Exotic weapons are in desperate need of an Exotic Catalyst due to their underwhelming performance, or otherwise shortcomings in specific scenarios.

Exotic Weapons that Deserve a Buff From an Exotic Catalyst in Destiny 2

Devil’s Ruin

Devil’s Ruin is essentially the short-range counterpart of the Vex Mythoclast Exotic fusion rifle, except the alternate firing mode of the Devil’s Ruin is a built-in Champion counter. However, since this weapon’s standard and alternate firing modes are so similar to each other it arguably begs the question of why they both exist in the first place. This weapon could stand to benefit from an Exotic Catalyst that noticeably differentiates its two firing modes.

Parasite

The Parasite comes with a unique buff that increases the player’s damage for a short duration after the player hurts themselves with one of this weapon’s projectiles. The problem with this buff though is that the players who use the weapon for this reason are essentially locking themselves out of otherwise having a heavy weapon and an Exotic weapon, and the damage buff doesn’t quite reflect this compromise. Also, it’s not always a practical strategy for players to shoot themselves with a grenade launcher, so an Exotic Catalyst could make this both a safer and stronger piece of equipment.

Salvation’s Grip

This weapon was initially appealing because of its ability to generate Stasis Crystals on demand, but with so many other weapons capable of this now, Salvation’s Grip generally isn’t worth occupying the player’s only Exotic weapon slot. Because of this, Salvation’s Grip is long overdue for an Exotic Catalyst that majorly overhauls the base weapon.

The Lament

The Lament is one of the fewExotic weapons that can stun Championsand it can also heal the player while attacking. Even though this weapon heals players, it isn’t always a safe option to bring intoDestiny 2’s high-difficulty endgame content, but an Exotic Catalyst could change that, such as making this weapon apply Restoration or an Overshield to the player.

Truth

This weapon is one of manyreturning weapons from the originalDestiny. Although it turned out to be a satisfying weapon again in the sequel, it doesn’t quite hold up to the latest legendary rocket launchers inDestiny 2’s endgame meta for DPS, so a Catalyst could change that.

The Queenbreaker

The Queenbreaker is in the same boat as the Truth rocket launcher: both are returning weapons fromDestiny 1that are outshined by the latest Legendary weapons. Thisusable enemy weapon inDestiny 2could stand to receive a substantial buff with its Exotic Catalyst to be worthy of occupying an Exotic weapon slot, compared to its stronger legendary counterparts.

Wavesplitter

Since the Wavesplitter requires continuous firing to reach its maximum damage output, it would be nice to see an Exotic Catalyst that improves its ammo conservation. Although this weapon is still plenty powerful without needing to fully activate its damage boost, any kind of Exotic Catalyst buff at all could still bring more value to this weapon.

Wish-Ender

According to Destinytracker, the Wish-Ender is one of the most used bows inDestiny 2’s PvP game modes. With this weapon’s ability to detect enemies behind walls and obstacles, it’s already an incredibly useful weapon, but otherwise, it performs identically to any legendary bow. Even if its Catalyst ends up being a small stat boost, it would still be a nice addition to this weapon.
