Although Bungie has announced thatDestiny 2’s Season of the Worthy willbring back Trials of Osirisand new maps, armor, and weapons to support it, the developer has kept relatively quiet about the overall content offering. Fans don’t yet know if Season of the Worthy will include a PvE component, if there will be new gear outside of Trials, or what the overall thrust of the Season’s story will be. However, a closer look at the latestDestiny 2ViDOC does suggest that a classicDestiny 1exotic will be returning next season.
If players look closely during theDestiny 2ViDOCthat details the return of Trials of Osiris and Bungie’s plans for the endgame PvP mode, they can see what appears to be a massive shotgun on the back of a Guardian. The image is somewhat obscured and is in motion, but it looks like the shotgun is the quadruple-barreled Fourth Horseman exotic shotgun from D1.

Fourth Horsemanwas a popular exotic because of its fast fire rate and high damage potential. Anytime that the Arc Burn and Specialist modifiers were active on Nightfall Strikes, players could chew through enemies and bosses with just a few trigger pulls. The exotic shotgun also featured fast reload for getting back into the fight and the ability to gain extra ammo after an enemy kill.
HowDestiny 2might reimagine Fourth Horseman is up for debate, but the full auto, high damage potential fits well within the current weapon meta. Many shotguns are already very strong thanks to the combination of full auto frames and theTrench Barrel perk. Fourth Horseman could take things to the next level at the cost of an exotic slot.
Of course, not allDestiny 2players are convinced that the weapon on the Guardian’s back is Fourth Horseman. Some believe it is a pulse rifle or a different type of shotgun, and there is evidence to support those theories too. But since Season 9 didn’t bring back anyDestiny 1exotics, it seems only fitting that Season 10 do the honors.
There is also an argument to be made against Bungie over-relying on Destiny 1 content beyond what has already been announced. Not only is Trials of Osiris returning for Season of the Worthy with the same armor set from its initial launch, but three of the most popular Crucible maps from Destiny 1 are as well.Anomaly, Exodus Blue, and Cauldron are all coming backto further take advantage of Trials fans' nostalgia. Bringing back Fourth Horseman might be overkill and have players questioning what is truly new this season.
