Between the alien invasions, the dragons, the avalanches, and the trapdoors, video games have plenty of ways to kill the player. Wearing armor is one of the most basic methods of staying alive in many games. Without armor, death is all but certain.

Deadside - Moto And Hard Hat

Open-world multiplayer shooter and survival gameDeadsideisn’t shy about punishing the player for their mistakes, and not wearing armor is one of them. With a variety of armor to choose from and plenty of enemy players ready to take advantage of any mistake, understanding the pros and cons of each piece of armor in the game is critical. Here’s everything players need to know about the best armor in the game.

8Moto And Hard Hat

InDeadside,a headshot will always kill a character who is not wearing a helmet, regardless of the weapon or the character’s health. The extreme lethality of headshots in this game is a major reason that wearing a helmet, any helmet, is so important. It may not bethe hardest FPS ever made, butDeadsideis still rough. The Moto Helmet and Hard Hat have the same stats and should thus be examined together.

Small arms and light rifles deal a uniform 75 damage with a headshot against a character wearing one of these two helmets, killing the target in two shots. While that’s not great, being able to tank even a single shot to the head is enough to let the player win some fights they would have otherwise lost, making the Moto Helmet and Hard Hat both substantial improvements over wearing nothing. Snipers, shotguns, and heavy weapons will still kill targets wearing these helmets in one shot.

Deadside - Tactical Helmet

7Tactical Helmet

The Tactical Helmet is an interesting piece of armor. It does offer better protective value than the Moto Helmet and Hard Hat in terms of damage absorbed, but the number of shots required to kill a character wearing the Tac Helmet is exactly the same as that required to kill a character wearing the Moto, except against the absolute weakest guns in the game.

In short, if the character survives getting shot and manages to kill their enemy, they will have more health left over if they are wearing the Tac Helmet than if they were wearing the Moto. That’s not a huge deal, butanything that helps the character prepare for the next fight a bit faster can make a difference in the harsh world ofDeadside, and the Tac offers slightly better camouflage, so the Tactical Helmet is still the superior choice.

6Police Vest

Offering approximately 40% damage reduction, the Police Vest is useful against small arms fire, capable of taking a number of shots from pistols before the player goes down.Wearing Police Vest is a marked improvement over wearing nothing at all, granting the player much better survivability anytime they’re outsidethe base they’ve built.

The problem is that compared to every other armor in the game, the Police Vest simply doesn’t offer that much. Though it’s useful against small arms fire, it crumples under more serious firepower. It can prevent the player from being one-shotted by a sniper rifle, which is great, but a shotgun will still kill a player in a Police Vest instantly.

5Operator Helmet

Another piece of armor referred to as a Tactical Helmet in the game, the so-called “Operator Helmet” (taking its name from the various enhancements that would be used in special operations) is a significant upgrade over lower classes of head armor, for a couple of reasons.

One of the major differences is that the Operator Helmet will let the user tank two headshots and only die after the third, rather than dying after a second shot as one would with other helmets. Most importantly, however, is thatthe Operator Helmet will allow the wearer to survive a single shot to the head from a sniper rifle.Granted, that shot will wipe almost the entirety of the player’s health and leave them extremely easy to kill with a follow-up shot, but being able to survive sniper fire at all is a huge deal.

4Assault Vest

The Assault Vest offers a 5% improvement in damage reduction over a Police Vest, for a total damage reduction of approximately 45%. This is good enough to stand up to small arms as well as some of the lighter rifles, but an S85 can still kill the player in two shots, as will sniper rifles, so they player will still need to be cautious ontheir next wood run.

Unlike players wearing a Police Vest, players wearing an Assault Vest aren’t instantly killed by a single shotgun blast. It will take two shots from this weapon to kill players in an Assault Vest, which is enough by itself to recommend this armor over the Police Vest.

3Assault Helmet

Characters wearing an Assault Helmet require three shots with an assault rifle or two shots from a sniper rifle to kill. One of the best overall pieces of armor in the game, the Assault Helmet gives characters serious tanking potential, letting them eat some heavy bullets before going down.

Though higher-tier armor is expensive, pieces like the Assault Helmet are well worth the price.Firefights inDeadsidecan be over in a flash thanks to the considerable stopping power of the game’s weapons and the relative fragility of its characters, so armor like the Assault Helmet is absolutely vital for staying in the fight.

2Heavy Assault Vest

The best chest armor in the game, the Heavy Assault Vest offers 50% damage reduction, which meansanyone wearing it can take a substantial beating before they succumb to enemy fire.Against the Heavy Assault Vest, a Scorp only deals 14 damage, requiring 8 shots to kill the target, which should be plenty of time to find cover or kill the assailant.

The S85 requires three shots to punch through the Heavy Assault Vest and kill the target, and even a shotgun requires two. It’s worth noting that grenade launchers and 50 Cal will still kill the player immediately, even with this armor on.Deadsidemay beevolving from its survival game roots, but it hasn’t changed that much.

Deadside - Assault Vest

1Heavy Assault Helmet

Unlike some games, characters inDeadsidehave two hitboxes for their heads: one for their face and one for the rest of their head. The Heavy Assault Helmet is the only armor in the game that includes a face shield and will therefore protect a character who is shot in the face. For this reason alone, it is incredibly powerful.

The game’smost brutal weaponswill kill the player outright, but everything else will require multiple shots. Given that even the weakest gun in the game can one-shot a character if they are hit in the face, the face shield provided by the Heavy Assault Helmet should never be underestimated. In all other ways, this piece of equipment functions as a regular Assault Helmet, making it easily the best piece of armor in the game.
