Dead by Daylighthas, in its first developer update of 2023, finally revealed plans to nerf The Nurse. WithDead by Daylightplayers having grown tired of her unparalleled dominance as a killer, which has spanned over several years, changes to her power and add-ons will hopefully make her more enjoyable to play against.

In most multiplayer games, the meta develops and changes over time as certain characters are nerfed or buffed in accordance with play rates and win rates. Despite the majority ofDead by Daylightplayers agreeing that the Nurse is, by far, the strongest killer in the game,Dead by Daylightkill rateshave always portrayed her as one of the weaker killers when it comes to getting kills, though this is likely for two reasons. Not only is the Nurse is so infuriating to play against for many survivors that they simply disconnect from the game upon first hearing her cry, with disconnects not being counted as kills when it comes to data collection, but she also has a decently steep learning curve that turns many killer players away from her initially.

After years of survivor complaints, the January 2023 Developer Update has unveiled plans to finally nerf the Nurse as part of fixing theunhealthyDead by Daylightmeta. Starting with a very commonly requested change, her blink attacks will now be counted as special attacks rather than regular hits, meaning she can no longer benefit half as much from snowballing perks such as Starstruck and NOED. In addition to this, a sound cue will be added to let survivors know when she has regained both of her blink charges - though this likely won’t do much as the issue with Nurse is not a lack of information on behalf of the survivors so much as it is a lack of options when running from her.

The final set of changes being leveled towards Nurse will address her add-ons. Firstly, add-ons increasing her maximum blink range will be entirely removed and replaced with new effects that allow the Nurse to become undetectable or teleport back to her starting position - two very niche add-ons that will likely not see much use by those who knowhow to play the Nurse. This will be a welcome change to survivors as Nurse’s range and recharge add-ons are some of the most oppressive in the game - and Behaviour Interactive has also noted that it will be changing the latter in some way. Many of Nurse’s other add-ons will also receive changes, though it is not yet known what these will be.

Though these changes have been needed for a long time, manyDead by Daylightplayers will be left wondering if these nerfs will be enough to finally knock the Nurse off her perch as thestrongest killer inDead by Daylight, several years after she first took the crown, or if an entire rework of her power will be necessary to bring her in line with other killers.

Dead by Daylightis currently available for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
