Regardless of the actual real-life practicality of dual wielding, it cannot be denied that it looks absolutely cool (despite issues surrounding recoil, reloading and accuracy). Unfortunately, this particular power fantasy will not be available inCyberpunk 2077as per a tweet from Global Community Lead at CD Projekt Red Marcin Momot.

In the tweet, Momot negatively replies to a fan question asking if dual wielding will be inCyberpunk 2077. This comes as disappointing news to fans wanting to emulate the practice seen in many cyberpunk works such asThe MatrixandShadowrunand is yetanother feature that has been removed from the game.

Interestingly, dual wielding was already seen in thefirst-ever gameplay footage ofCyberpunk 2077, albeit on an NPC. But there will be a lot of differences in the final product released on November 19 compared to that initial footage from August 2018, including theremoval of the wall running depicted in the demo due to “design reasons.”

While this news is definitely disappointing considering the immense hype surrounding the upcoming RPG, no gameplay footage so far depicted the player character V being able to dual wield, so this should not necessarily be counted as a cut feature. However, the collector’s edition contains a statue depicting V dual wielding pistols, so it is probable that this feature was discussed during development, but ultimately scrapped to either preserve the design of the game like the wall running example above or due to time constraints.

Despite this disappointment, it is good to see transparency from Momot and CD Projekt Red regarding the status of the game. The immense hype surroundingCyberpunk 2077has led to unrealistic expectations and many hot takes from the community and if features like dual wielding and wall running have been removed from the game due to preserve the game’s design, it demonstrates that CD Projekt Red do take a meticulous approach to development that can be seen in their previous work.

Much discussion surroundingCyberpunk 2077has occurred on Twitter, from serious questions like this regarding the game to more light-hearted observations from the official account of the game itself. Most notably, the account reacted to rapper Kanye West’s presidential run announcement.

Cyberpunk 2077is set to release November 19 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, with Stadia, PS5, and Xbox Series X versions to follow.
