In 2021, Grove Street Games released an enhanced version ofGrand Theft Auto: San AndreasthroughGrand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Editioncollection. While this version ofGrand Theft Auto: San Andreashelped modernize the game, many fans were not happy with Grove Street Games' approach, criticizing the art style and laundry list of technical problems. Considering theproblems withGrand Theft Auto: San Andreas - The Definitive Edition, there are fans who would like to see a proper remake of the game.
In that spirit, YouTube channel TeaserPlay has created a concept video showing what aGrand Theft Auto: San Andreasremake could look like if it were built using Unreal Engine 5. The video itself is a recreation of the famous Big Smoke’s order scene. For those who may not be familiar with the scene, an early section ofGrand Theft Auto: San Andreashas the character Big Smoke making a comically large order from a fast food restaurant drive-thru. It’s one of the most iconic scenes fromSan Andreas, and now fans can see the scene remade in Unreal Engine 5.

TheGrand Theft Auto: San Andreasconcept video shows some of the game’s main characters rebuilt with Unreal Engine 5,including CJ, Ryder, Sweet, and of course, Big Smoke. It’s not an action-heavy trailer, but it does show what these characters would look like with more realistic graphics. After Big Smoke makes his order, the camera pulls back to show the rear of the car, and if this were a playable build, players would then be able to drive off into the open world.
Rockstar Games has not indicated that it has any plans to remakeGrand Theft Auto: San Andreas, soGTAfans will have to make due with this trailer andSan Andreas - The Definitive Edition. Right now, Rockstar Games is busy working on thenext entry in theGrand Theft Autofranchise, and after the controversialDefinitive Editionlaunch, it seems unlikely that other studios will be trusted with remastering or remaking Rockstar’s franchises any time soon.
In fact, reports fromGTAinsiders have claimed that other Rockstar Games remaster/remake projects were planned, but they were apparently scrapped in the wake ofThe Definitive Edition’s poor launch. One such project was said to be aRed Dead Redemptionremaster, so that’s definitely disappointing news for fans of Rockstar’s open world western franchise.
As far asGTAgoes, fans haveGrand Theft Auto 6to look forward to, whenever it releases.
