Call of Duty: Warzonejust got a massive update that added some long-awaited features, including secrets to be found in themysterious bunkers scattered across the mapand various hints towards changes to come. Even with all of these hidden gems to find throughout the map, the main point of the game remains fighting and winning in large-scale battle royale combat. To do that, balanced and reliable weapons are a must. The AUG, based on the real-world Steyr bullpup of the same name, is not only a reliable weapon, but also one of the most versatile guns inModern WarfareandWarzone.
At first glance, it might seem foolish to bring any SMG other than the lauded MP5 into the long-range engagements ofCall of Duty: Warzone, but the AUG is incredibly customizeable and can easily be converted to use 5.56 AR ammunition to compete with other ARs. In fact, the standard AUG in its real-world form is an AR, and can be converted into an SMG, rather than vice-versa as inCall of Duty. Getting a handle on the potential of the AUG is a good idea for any seasonedWarzoneplayer, especially those who have tried out all of the ARs and didn’t find a favorite, or simply want a change of pace from the normal fare of M4A1s and MP5s.

Best AUG Attachments for Warzone
There is a clear correlation between which weapons are the best options inModern WarfareandWarzone, and which weapons are the most versatile. The AUG is easily one of themost versatile weaponsin the game, with a wide array of attachments that can totally change the nature of the weapon, altering its damage, handling, range, and mobility. Some attachments are clearly superior to others, but there are a couple that are complete must-haves. These builds are centered towardsWarzone, so attachments that might be great in tight, close quartersModern Warfaremaps won’t be as prevalent.
The two must-have attachments for the AUG include the Monolithic suppressor and the 60-round 5.56 caliber drum magazine. The Monolithic suppressor is easily one of the best attachments in the entire game, increasing range and damage while simultaneously being the stealthiest muzzle attachment on offer. It reduces mobility somewhat, but inWarzone, almost every well-balanced build includes a Monolithic suppressor. The only exceptions are weapons with integral suppressor options like theMP5or M13. The AUG can compete with other ARs with the addition of 5.56 caliber rounds, and the fact that they can be added in a 60-round drum makes it even more competitive, considering most ARs have a 50- or 60-round option.

With bullets in the same caliber as thelegendary M4A1, the AUG isn’t short on damage, but there are still more attachments that can boost it to even higher heights. All of the barrel options are viable. Both 407mm barrels extend the range of the AUG, but the light version has slightly better ADS speeds at the cost of recoil control. The 622mm barrel combined with a 60-round mag makes the AUG almost LMG-like, with great range and control at the cost of quite a bit of mobility and ADS speed. Depending on the role the AUG is to fill, any of these barrels can have a place. Foregrips and grip tapes are the other main attachments that AUG builds will use, with the Ranger foregrip and Rubber or Stippled grip tapes standing out as the best.
Optics are up to preference, but a good zoom optic is preferable inWarzone. Hybrid optics are great for added versatility, but the VLK 3.0 maintains mobility, has a decent zoom, and still has a wide enough field of view to be useful in relatively close combat. The attachments to avoid are muzzle devices other than the Monolithic suppressor, laser optics, stocks, and any attachment that decreases range or hurts ADS times too much. Unfortunately for the AUG, its stock options are outshone by foregrips and grip tapes, and while lasers might be useful inclose range combat, they give up too much stealth in return for relatively little reward.
Best AUG Builds for Warzone
To push the AUG out to the maximum range possible, a zoom optic, Monolithic suppressor, 622mm barrel, 60-round 5.56 magazines, and Rubber grip tape will transform it from a zippy little SMG to a slow-moving long-range powerhouse. However, while this sort of build illustrates how versatile the AUG is, it doesn’t play to its strengths. For a long-range option, something powerful at range like anSKSor an actual LMG would be far better suited to the role. What make the AUG special is its balance between SMG and AR traits, which are brought out far better in a more balanced build.
The most balanced, best all-around build for the AUG is as follows: a hybrid optic, Monolithic suppressor, 407mm Light barrel, 60-round 5.56 magazines, and Stippled grip tape. The 407mm Light barrel provides enough extra range to be competitive with most ARs, but doesn’t hinder mobility or ADS speeds all too much. Meanwhile, Stippled grip tape almost entirely balances out the penalties incurred by the Monolithic suppressor, and the 60-round magazine still provides enough firepower toshred through body armorand multiple members of an enemy squad. Some players might prefer a bit more accuracy or a tad more mobility, so the best way to tweak any build to an individual player’s taste is to hop into a custom game and try out some variations.
