Sypha Belnades is a powerful magic user in theCastlevaniagames and Netflix series. She possesses control over the elements and utilizes them to vanquish all manner ofnight creatures and evil entitiesthat are foolish enough to try and test her prowess.
Amid her spellcasting and evil-banishing duties, Sypha has some memorable quips and quotes, especially in the Netflix series alongside and often at the expense of Trevor Belmont, the Vampire Hunter. Here are some of the iconic phrases she utters while displaying her amazing adeptness with the arcane arts, or verbally sparring with Trevor and her allies in various episodes of the Netflix series and some of the games.
6"Prepare To Face My Righteous Fury!"
Castlevania Judgmentsees various iconic characters across theCastlevaniatitles duke it out in a 3D clash of swords and spells. One of the combatants who were summoned to this plane is Sypha Belnades.
Armed with a double-ended staff and battle regalia, she seeks vengeance against Carmilla for her continued malicious influence which was the catalyst for the Witch Hunts that persecuted Sypha’s sisters ever since.
During the character select screen, Sypha utters this quote. Ever the headstrong and driven Speaker and having the blessing of the Church, she puts it upon herself to smiteall evil that crosses herpath to help humanity, even if humanity is still apprehensive about Sypha and the Speakers.
5"I Am A Speaker, And A Scholar Of Magic. I Serve No Demon And Do No Evil."
The Netflix iteration of Sypha and the Speakers sees them being shunned by most of the people because the Church mistakenly blames them for the heinous attack that Dracula’s army of night creatures has committed. But even with such prejudice, Sypha and her brethren still protect the innocent from evil forces.
This notion of doing good is strengthened further in one of the episodes in the first season where Sypha reveals herself as a Speaker to Trevor and an unruly mob, with the latter poised to apprehend her and the other Speakers and execute them via orders of the Bishop under the grounds of witchcraft.
Trevor then finally realizes why Sypha was driven to get back to explore the Gresit catacombs: she wants to seek out the “sleeping soldier” who can help them inthe fight against Dracula.
4"I Could Pee In A Bucket And Tell Him It’s Beer."
When Sypha was exploring the Gresit catacombs by herself, she was turned into stone by a cyclops. After Trevor Belmont rescues her from her predicament thanks to her grandfather, the Elder, asking for help, she still dislikes him because ofhis uncouth personality.
Upon returning to the Elder, both Sypha and he had a fond family moment, to which Trevor nonchalantly dismissed their reunion and asked where the nearest tavern was since he was hankering for some beer.
While the Elder directed him to the tavern, Sypha, clearly annoyed, remarked that she could relieve herself in a bucket, give it to Trevor, and lie to him that it was beer. An exasperated Elder reminded his granddaughter that even if Trevor is uncivilized, he still saved her from doom, and should be more cordial with him.
3"I Will Incinerate You Before Your Fangs Touch That Man’s Throat."
As Trevor and Sypha finally reach the resting place of the “Sleeping Soldier”, they are surprised to see a coffin where a man with golden hair and a great scar on his chest rests. Trevor assesses that this person is a vampire: the soldier then awakens, and Trevor engages.
A grueling fight ensues where Trevor and Sypha attempt to disarm the awoken soldier. But this is easier said than done since their opponent exhibits extreme speed and proficiency with his sword. After a couple of clashes, Trevor is slammed into the ground, and the soldier is seemingly going for the kill, Sypha gets behind the soldier and readies a fire spell aimed at the back of his head.
The soldier then relents and extends his hand.He introduced himself as Alucardand told them that he was waiting for a hunter and a scholar to wake him up, as the prophecy foretold. After a brief conversation, Alucard agrees to help Sypha and Trevor defeat his father, Dracula.
Sypha hails from a nomadic group of scholars called the Speakers. They are well-versed in the arcane arts and use their knowledge to wield the elements against evil creatures. The Speakers hold their craft in high regard, and to ensure their secrets are well-kept, their heritage, practices, and history are all passed on from one generation of Speakers to the next via verbal communication.
This method of passing on generational knowledge has Sypha lamenting to Alucard while rummaging through theBelmont Estate’s vast libraryof books and history about their lineage and evil-slaying tradition. She remarks that it would have been better if the Speakers had written down all their community’s knowledge and history so that it would be easier for the next generation of Speakers to soak in such information.
In the subsequent seasons of theCastlevaniaTV series, Sypha and Trevor become attracted to one another and spark a romantic relationship. While traveling from town to town and vanquishing night creatures and monsters, the couple find a respite and start reminiscing about the day they met and where they are now.
Sypha was regaling all their previous adventures ofeliminating monsters and saving villagersfrom doom with much fondness. Trevor remarked that Sypha seemed to enjoy their adventures and that he too was happy with her company. This leads to them conversing about the possibility of settling down once their campaign against evil is over.
Sypha responds by stating that while the idea of settling down is okay, she’d rather travel around and dispatch whatever evil creatures are causing harm to innocent people alongside Trevor since it’s more exciting. Trevor smiles and seems to like the idea of swashbuckling around the countryside with Sypha while keeping the idea of settling down with her in the back of his mind.
