The free-to-play battle royaleCall of Duty: Warzonehas been a huge success for Activision and Infinity Ward, reaching30 million players since launchingon March 10. However, with the advent of a new game comes a host of players looking for ways to get the most bang for their buck — a phrase taken quite literally by one player on Reddit.
On March 14, user deltaforcestron uploaded a video to the r/CODWarzone subreddit of them planting a number of remote-detonating C4 explosives on the front of a truck inWarzoneand then letting it drift into an opposing player’s vehicle before detonating it. They compare the trick to a tactic present in EA’s long-runningBattlefieldfranchise of first-person shooters.

The post’s comment thread is full of players reminiscing about taking advantage of the car bombing tactic in games likeBattlefield 4, with deltaforcestron responding to one saying that even if the trick is still possible inBattlefield 5they have “no reason to go back” now that it’s in aCall of Dutygame. The competing franchise of wartime shooters has been dormant for a little while, but in January EA’s Chief Operating Officer Blake Jorgensen confirmed there will be anewBattlefieldon the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series Xduring the company’s 2020 third-quarter fiscal earnings call.
While there is already agrowing meta of weapons inWarzonethat players are intended to use, it’s frankly hard to argue with how effective it is to blow up one vehicle with another, especially given how flashy the total annihilation approach is. The tactic gained notoriety inBattlefieldfor the same reason.
Plenty of other cool tricks and kills inCall of Duty: Warzonehave been uploaded online in the game’s first two weeks. One player usedthe JOKR rocket launcher to kill an entire squadhiding together on top of a building in a single shot and commented that it’s “now my favorite weapon forWarzone.”
WhetherWarzoneplayers choose to claim victory using the myriad of weapons provided by its developers, or by cleverly combining disparate items like C4 and trucks, it’s cool to see the game offering variety in its kills.Battle royale games may be difficult to balance, but there will always be unexpected surprises waiting to be discovered.
Call of Duty: Warzoneis out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
