By now it should be no secret that something is going down withCall of Duty: Warzone’s Dam. Players have reportedspotting something moving under the ice by the dam, and of course there have been widespread accounts of hearing howling coming from the other side.
At first, mostCall of Duty: Warzoneplayers assumed that these howls came from wolves, but now there are theories that it could be hyenas instead. There isn’t much to back up this claim, but Redditor ModernWarzone seems to believe the theory pretty wholeheartedly.

ModernWarzone is a dataminer and frequently leaks information regardingthe future ofCall of Duty: Warzone, so typically their information is pretty spot on. That said, while there are some strong points for the potential of hyenas being added, there are also a lot of flaws in the theory which seem to be bad enough to discount it.
ModernWarzone has reported previously about signs that Hyenas have been added toWarzone’s code. If these leaks are true, then hyenas being the source of thehowling from beyond the damis a possibility. Both wolves and hyenas can live in cold areas, so the climate around and beyond the dam wouldn’t be a concern. Still, many are wondering why Infinity Ward would go through so much trouble just to tease an execution. Others think that hyenas could just be a skin for Talon’s dogs.
The biggest problem with this theory seems to be the fact that Hyenas don’t howl. They are much more well-known for their cackling sounds which are akin to human laughter, so it would be strange for Infinity Ward to use this sound to indicate hyenas. What’s more, it seems like wolves would be a much more likely choice in general over hyenas, which don’t appear very often in video games or media in general. It doesn’t help that there seems to be a million other theories about the sound as well, includingwolves, zombies, hell hounds, and more.
In general most commenters seemed to dismiss the theory, claiming it to be unlikely or calling out its flaws. That isn’t to say it couldn’t happen, as it would be a rather unique move on the part of Infinity Ward, but really nothing is certain at this point. WithWarzoneseason 4 in full swing, hopefully some of these highly anticipated big changes will come soon.
Call of Duty: Warzoneis available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
