Ever since downloading the latest update forCall of Duty: Modern Warfare, fans have noticed something weird when trying to find a match. Occasionally,Call of Duty: Modern Warfareplayers will be in a lobby that shows the map as being one of two maps that aren’t officially in the game, indicating that their release is likely just around the corner.
Since the latest update,Call of Duty: Modern Warfareplayers have found themselves in lobbies for previously leaked maps that have yet to actually be added to the game or even be announced by Infinity Ward. This includes theclassicModern Warfare 3map Village, as well as Backlot fromCall of Duty 4. Dataminers have found evidence for these maps previously, so that combined with this slip-up more or less confirms that they are on the way.

Now the only question is whenMW3’s Village andCall of Duty 4’s Backlotwill be coming toCall of Duty: Modern Warfare. The most likely explanation is that the maps will be added to the game come next Tuesday, April 7, which is whenModern WarfareSeason 3 is expected to kick off. However, it’s possible that the maps will be released one at a time over the course of Season 3, and it’s also possible that Infinity Ward will release completely different maps to start Season 3 instead.
We also can’t rule out the possibility thatModern WarfareSeason 2 will get a last-minute extension. Game developers have been known to do that in the past, and since Season 3 hasn’t even been officially announced yet, it’s certainly possible. Right now, theModern WarfareSeason 2 end dateis said to be April 6, so fans should find out more by then.
It will be interesting to see what elseModern WarfareSeason 3 will have in store besides these maps. It’s been suggested thatmoreMW2mapsare in the works for the game, as Infinity Ward has opted not to remakeModern Warfare 2’s multiplayer as part of the recently-released remaster. If so, one has to imagine that those maps will be released later on in Season 3 instead of when it starts.
If past seasons are any indication,Modern WarfareSeason 3 will likely see some new content for the 2v2 Gunfight mode and thelarge-scale Ground War modein addition to standard multiplayer. Hopefully Activision releases aModern WarfareSeason 3 road map sooner rather than later so fans know what to expect.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfareis out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
