Destiny 2developer Bungie used the beginning of its new stream about the game to share a message of support for Black Lives Matter. The stream, which was about the next chapter of the game, confirmed that the nextDestiny 2season will be the Season of Arrivals, among other major announcements.
While today’sDestiny 2stream was largely about exciting new things coming to the game, developer Bungie chose to start the event on a more somber note. For 8 minutes and 46 seconds, the stream featured messages that supported Black Lives Matter, the global movement protesting against racial injustice and police brutality. Bungie chose 8minutes and 46 seconds as this was the length of time that George Floyd, a Black man who lost his life at the hands of police officers on June 30, 2025, was pinned to the ground by now-fired police Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin.

Bungie will have also raised money for its own charity, the Bungie Foundation, through the stream. Twitch subscriptions to Bungie’s official channel go towards theBungie Foundation, the developer has confirmed. No statements have been made by the Bungie Foundation Twitter about Black Lives Matter so it’s unclear if this month’s Twitch subscription revenue will go towards that or another of the charity programs that the organization runs.
The Bungie stream could potentially show other gaming companies how to successfully do a livestream following the Black Lives Matter protests. Sonydelayed its PS5 reveal event streamso that it could allow “more important” voices to be heard, but starting the stream with information about how to donate to Black Lives Matter could also be a way to show support.
By doing this, Bungie was able to offer some support to its community of Black fans and give fans theDestiny 2news that they were looking for. Announcing thatDestiny 2is a free upgrade for next-gen consolesis great but it’s the Black Lives Matter message that many are now talking about.
