Veteran actor Bruce Campbell, who is best known for his performances in 1981’sThe EvilDeadand Sony’sSpider-Mantrilogy, is rumored to make his return to the fantasy genre with Marvel’sDoctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.Given that Sam Raimi, his long-time colleague, will be directingDoctor Strange 2, many fans believe such rumors could very well be true, but what does Campbell himself have to say about them?
In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Campbell addressed the claims with an intriguing response that seems to tease hisinvolvement inDoctor Strange 2. While he didn’t confirm or deny anything outright, he did mention that Raimi’s movies are not good if he is not in them. “If Sam wants a good movie, he’ll put me in it,” he said, adding that things are always unpredictable with these types of epic movies. He said, “I keep it cryptic because A) I don’t want to get sued, but B) I don’t want to say, ‘Yeah, hey, tune in!’ and then go, ‘Where were you, idiot?'”

Campbell may have played it safe with his vague answer, but he’s put outother potentialDoctor Strange 2cluesthis year that seem to support the fan theories. Back in February, he took to Twitter to share a photo of the London skyline with the rather telling caption, “Boy, it was a blast, working in a certain city, with a certain director on a certain movie with a certain actor — it sure was!” Many people are adamant he was referring toDoctor Strangein the Multiverse of Madnesssince the film was reportedly being shot in London at the time, though nothing has been officially confirmed as of yet.
Even prior to that teaser tweet, Campbell had already voiced his interest in being a part of the film, back whenRaimi was confirmed asDoctor Strange 2’s directorin April of 2020. Considering the two have been involved in several successful projects in the past, it’s totally probable that they will reunite once again in the mind-bending epic. While Campbell’s involvement is still up in the air, we do know for sure that Benedict Cumberbatch will be reprising his role as Stephen Strange and that he’ll be joined by Elizabeth Olsen, Benedict Wong, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Rachel McAdams, who will appear as the Scarlet Witch, Wong, Mordo, and Christine Palmer, respectively. Additionally, newcomerXochitl Gomez will be playing America Chavez, who will be one of the new superhero additions to the MCU in Phase 4.
Campbell playing coy about his role, or lack thereof, inDoctor Strange 2is nothing new to fans. The secrecy Marvel Studios’ demands of its actors is well known and fans are accustomed to hearing actors cleverly dodge questions about the MCU, so Campbell is likely playing ball if he is in the film after all.
