The world ofBorderlandsis chock full of colorful characters bringing life to the chaotic universe of violence and loot. Fans have never been shy about highlighting their personal favorites, either, throughcosplays and projectsshowing off their love of Gearbox’s franchise. A new piece of fan art is now making the rounds online of the series' resident mechromancer with her very loyal and very deadly bot.

Reddit user GabrielJFreire shared their new piece ofBorderlandsfan art online highlighting one of their personal favorite characters, Gaige. GabrielJFriere said they started this particular piece of art back in May and took their time to give as much care and attention to their piece as possible. It features the young vault hunter sitting atop her loyal combat bot, Deathtrap, to reflect the bond between the pair fans first got a taste of inBorderlands 2.

Gearbox first introduced Gaige as the first of two new vault hunters, alongsideKrieg, added toBorderlands 2following its release in 2012. Gaige, or the mechromancer, offered players the ability to deploy Deathtrap to support her in combat for 60 seconds. Depending on the skill tree players focused on, Gaige and Deathtrap’s abilities could vary between being DPS-focused, elemental-focused, or balanced between damage and survivability.

While there was little in the way of story for Gaige inBorderlands 2outside of some background lore, she would return as a key character in theBorderlands 3DLCGuns, Love, and Tentacles. She serves as the official wedding planner for Sir Hammerlock and Wainwright Jakobs' wedding on the Lovecraft-inspired world of Xylourgos. Things go awry because of a cult worshipping the corpse of a giant, dead monster, which kidnaps one of the grooms. Gaige would help the other vault hunters battle the cult and its leader over the course of the campaign before saving the grooms, defeating the cult, and witnessing Jakobs and Hammerlock tie the knot.

As for the fan art, GabrielJFreire’s piece is another example of how beloved Gaige and Deathtrap are among theBorderlandscommunity. She is a popular choice among female cosplayers, such as Twitter user @JessilynCupcake, who recently highlighted herGaige cosplayalongsideBorderlands’other popular female characters.

However, Gaige’s relationship with Deathtrap can add some extra charm to any fan art as GabrielJFreire’s piece shows. One is rarely seen without the other in-game, so it only makes sense to reflect this friendship in art in as cute a way as possible. GabrielJFreire clearly tries to capture this and ensured the artstyle reflected this wholesome relationship between the chaotic teenager and her murderbot.
