Borderlands 3’s launch on the Epic Games Store in September 2019 went extremely well. Yet despite its success and despite its continued post-launch support, many PC gamers have waited patiently to buy the game. It’s not that these PC gamers didn’t want to playBorderlands 3. Rather, it’s where they wanted to playBorderlands 3. Luckily for them,Borderlands 3is now nearing its launch on Steam.
A new FAQ posted by Gearbox this past week has all of the information that Steam users need forBorderlands 3’s launchon the platform. It starts withBorderlands 3’s release date on Steam, which is March 13. The FAQ also provides details regarding Steam pre-orders forBorderlands 3, pre-loading, and even the specific time that the game will be unlocked and playable. The FAQ also assuages any worries thatBorderlands 3won’t feature cross-play between PC platforms.

Excited Steam users looking forward toBorderlands 3will be able to both pre-order and pre-load the game ahead of its March 13 release date. Both pre-orders and pre-loads will start at the same time, on March 10, to keep things simple. The FAQ implies that the pre-load is the entire game, so pre-orderers will be able to startBorderlands 3as soon as they want on launch day.
Launch day information forBorderlands 3on Steamwas also provided. The game will officially unlock for all pre-orderers starting March 13 at 7:00 am PST. March 13 is a Friday, so a lot of players will probably be going to work that day. The game will at least be ready for them when they get home.
Finally, Gearbox has confirmed thatBorderlands 3will feature cross-play between Steam and theEpic Games Store. Players won’t be quarantined on one storefront. Steam users will be prompted to provide a unique name to use cross-play, because Steam allows for non-unique usernames. If that isn’t something a player wants to do, they can opt-out of cross-play between the storefronts. This option can be turned on or off from the game’s menus.
TheBorderlands 3Steam FAQ does provide some other information that some players may be curious about. For example,Epic Gamessave files can be manually transferred over to a Steam installation, the Steam installation requires a whopping 75 GB of space, and while cross-play is enabled, in-game item swapping isn’t available at launch. It may come later, though. Gearbox is clearly putting a lot of effort into making sure the Steam launch ofBorderlands 3goes well. It’s likely to pay off in the long run.
Borderlands 3is available now on PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
