The following article contains spoilers forBetter Call Saulseason 6The bloodyBetter Call Saulmid-season finale managed to leave many fans shocked, a hard feat to accomplish for theBreaking Badspinoff. Yet, those with a keen eye would have noticed months ago just what was about to unfold thanks to a seemingly innocent on-set photo posted by its main star Bob Odenkirk.
Sure,Better Call Saulbrought a whole new pack of characters to explore Jimmy McGill’s background, but the dark nature of the story means some of them won’t make it, such as Jimmy’s former boss and his late brother’s partner Howard Hamlin, played to great effect by Patrick Fabian. In this week’s “Plan and Execution,”Better Call Saulkilled one of its best characters, as Howard sadly crossed paths with Lalo Salamanca. Although few would have predicted the way it went down, the final outcome was already out there.

It all dates back to a picture Odenkirk posted on his personal social media accounts in October 2021. In this case, it was a selfie with Fabian where some leftover bloody makeup was still visible, and it was the exact same photo Odenkirk uploaded on the day after theBetter Call Saulmid-season finale. Puzzled by the actor’s approach, one fan just had to ask Odenkirk if all this was done on purpose, leaving him dumbfounded to admit he had simply screwed up by not noticing an important part of the story could be pieced out of the photo easily.
Fortunately, not all fans saw Odenkirk and Fabian’s photo last year, which was taken shortly after the actor returned to film the show’s final season after having suffered a heart attack. Luckily, all that training forNobodyhelped save Odenkirk’s life. All things considered, the actor’s message is on point, as Fabian was an absolute highlight in his finalBetter Call Saulappearance, providing even further depth to his departing character.
Funnily enough, Fabian has commented that he’d never met Tony Dalton on set, as their two characters were never really meant to run into each other, thus driving home his main idea of playing Howard as if he were part of a legal drama and not the corrupt, drug-ridden cartel world Jimmy walks into.Better Call Saulwill now go on break until July 11, but Odenkirk probably learned his lesson, so it would be fairly uncharacteristic of him to continue dropping spoilers.
Aside from Kim Wexler’s fate and Mike’s rise in Gustavo Fring’s criminal enterprise, the biggest item on the table forBreaking Badfans is seeing just how showrunners will manage to work in Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul, although thenewBetter Call Saulteaserfor the second half of the final season might offer a clue or two about that.
