SomeOverwatch 2players have already done their placement matches for Season 2 Competitive Play, and they are placing lower than expected.Overwatch 2Season 2 is out now, and like Season 1, it asks players to complete seven matches per role (or seven total for Open Queue) to get their Competitive Play placements. However, there’s been some controversy with howOverwatch 2has handled Competitive Play, and it doesn’t look like that is changing with Season 2.Overwatch 2’s approach to Competitive Play has been hugely controversial from the start.Overwatch 2made big changes to Competitive Playcompared toOW1, doing away with the SR system that fans had gotten accustomed to, switching to a new system where one’s rank changes after every seven wins or 20 losses. The uproar aboutOverwatch 2Competitive Play placements have been enough for Blizzard to issue an official statement on the matter, explaining that “rank decay” is applied to players at the start of a new season. They are then expected to climb back up to the rank that represents their true skill level over the course of the season. Needless to say, this approach is not sitting well with manyOverwatch 2players.
Blizzard has said that it needs to do a better job of making these systems understandable to players and that it will be addressing these things in future updates. However, it seems some players won’t be satisfied by anything short of reverting to the Competitive Play system fromOverwatch 1. Other elements from the firstOverwatchthat fans have been asking to make a comeback include thecontroversial loot boxes, which many are missing because now cosmetics can pretty much only be obtained by spending real money.
It’s unclear just how drastic of changes Blizzard is willing to make toOverwatch 2based on feedback, but it has been making some changes. In response to those upset about new heroes being locked behind tier 55 of the Battle Pass, Blizzard decided tomove new Tank hero Ramattra to tier 45 instead, which should help players get their hands on him a bit quicker. Whether this was enough of a change is up for debate, but it does seem to show Blizzard is listening to feedback.
Overwatch 2is available in early access for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
