The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Windowis one of the most ridiculous names for a show to date. It looks like someone is trying to go head-to-head against anime companies because they are the only ones with zanier names than this.

The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Windowhas an equally hilarious premise behind it, although it is not a purecomedy or parody. It falls somewhere in-between, with much of the plot taking itself seriously. The jokes are a bit more subtle because of this. These are only a few examples of the great jokes in the show and there will be spoilers ahead.
8The Bowl Of Corks
One of the earliest laughs that might get viewers is Anna’s giant bowl of corks. There are wine lovers and then there is Anna. The bowl is filled to the brim with corks. It should be sad as depression and alcoholism are dark things in reality but the sheer amount is too dramatic inThe Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window. That’s what makes it so funny. Dumping entire bottles into glasses is alsoa great joke.
7Buell And The Mailbox
In the first episode ofThe Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window, viewers may think the mailbox just got damaged. However, it is revealed that Buell has been working on it for years. How long can it take to fix a door? It isn’t Fort Knox’s vault door or anything close to that.
One of the best callback jokes to this is when Anna reveals to Douglas that the mailbox still isn’t fixed after three years. Shouldn’t Douglas know that if he is paying the bill? Buell’s raccoon hypothesis that then turns into a real thing isalso great gag.

6Anna’s Instagram Poses
Anna feels like she is about to come out of her shell when she meets Neil. Unfortunately, Lisa comes into the picture and ruinsher romantic notions. Anna cannot stand Lisa on many levels, which is a red herring to suggest maybe Anna accidentally blacked out and committed the murder.

She even mocks Lisa’s Instagram poses about taking a selfie while laughing. “Who does that?” Anna then does the thing she mocked, taking laughing selfies in her underwear to attract Rex. Apparently, the laughing selfies worked.
5Rex And Casserole
Unfortunately for Anna, her summoning of Rex made him paranoid. He comes to visit Anna in a threatening matter. That’s when the police arrive. Stashing him in the pantry, Anna confronts Detective Lane and her partner Officer Walters.
The detective wants a cup of coffee while the policeman wants a slice of casserole. It’s a very awkward situation whereina real investigationwould not prompt the police to ask for handouts like this. A “slice” of casserole is also just a funny way to put it.

4My Stomach Hurts
Whileinvestigating the mysteryaround the death of Emma’s teacher, Anna goes to her old school. She meets an office administrator there who starts to talk about the tragedy before a random kid pops in complaining about his stomach.
Anna’s trying to have a serious conversation and the administrator is torn between answering ridiculous questions for this kid and Anna. “Are you lying” followed by “I don’t know” is a priceless exchange between the two.

3Douglas’ Aloofness
Douglas isn’t cold so much as he is calculated and seemingly unaware of how human emotions work. He is a matter-of-fact kind of guy that doesn’t question the world. For example, when Rex makes Anna ask for bread, Douglas wants to know what kind.

Later he is seen taking a phone call with Anna in the middle of a session. This session is in a prison where cellphones probably are confiscated for obvious reasons. At least the convict was nice enough to let Douglas talk Anna out of her hysteria.
2Fingerprint Time
In one ofThe Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window’sbiggest twists, Anna is taken in for questioning about Lisa’s death. Did Anna do it? Detective Lane paints a pretty convincing picture before the fingerprint analyst comes in.
He tries to awkwardly take Anna’s fingerprints while Anna and Lane stare back at each other. They’re silent butthis other officeris talking happily about the process as if Anna is getting a routine cleaning done. This guy must just love his job. Either that or he is trolling Anna hard which is funny regardless of his true motive.

1“Like I Was Hit By A Mack Truck Driven By A Nine Year Old”
If someone is feeling bad either from an injury or cold, it’s a common phrase to say that person was hit by a truck. It’s a cliché butThe Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Windowputs a twist on this phrase.
Anna says this line, in all seriousness, three times to three different people. Douglas and Lane understand but Carol, Anna’s last visitor, is a bit confused by Anna’s words. Why is it a Mack truck? The specificity of the truck type makes the joke funnier.
