The game goes back decades and shows a 17-year-old Basim living his life as a street thief in Baghdad. Everything changes, however, when Basim is recruited by a mysterious organization, and upon becoming part of the Hidden Ones, he starts his journey to become a Master Assassin. TheAssassin’s Creedseries is known for its Easter eggs, andAssassin’s Creed Mirageis no different.

Reddit user SirLagunaLoire found a Necronomicon Easter egg in one ofAssassin’s Creed Mirage’s side quests. Known as the Book of the Dead, the Necronomicon appears in a list of missing books from the House of Wisdom as Kitab al-Azif, the book’s original name. The player shows that the Kitab al-Azif can be found in the ruins to the south-east of the map after solving a puzzle, in a place surrounded by goat bones. The Necronomicon is a fictional grimoire created by HP Lovecraft, said to have forbidden knowledge capable of threatening the sanity of the reader. The book is also a centerpiece of the myth of Cthulhu, aLovecraftian creature with several appearances in gamesand pop culture.

Although it’s a well-thought-out Easter egg, this isn’t the only mention to Lovecraft found by SirLagunaLoire inAssassin’s Creed Mirage. Upon returning to Kitab al-Azif, Basim receives an item called the Monstrous Talisman, which players will notice has the same shape as Cthulhu. The description of the talisman confirms this by saying that the item has the figure of an eldritch creature thought to be a primordial god. The text says that the story of the creature is told by Abdul Alhazred in the Kitab al-Azif, the fictional poet who is the supposed author of the book in Lovecraft’s lore.Assassin’s Creed Mirage’s talismans are just cosmetic trinketsthat players can attach to Basim’s shoulder with no effect on the character.

The reference to the Necronomicon is a clever Easter egg players can find while exploringAssassin’s Creed Mirages. Players should keep an eye out for more Easter eggs while exploring theAssassin’s Creed Miragemap.

Assassin’s Creed Mirageis available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
