Alan Wake 2will be $10 more expensive on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X than it is on PC. Horror game fans have been waiting over a decade to playAlan Wake 2, but now that it’s finally nearing its release date, some unfortunate revelations have come to light about the title.

Fans were first disappointed to learn thatAlan Wake 2is digital-only, with the game completely skipping any kind of physical release. It was explained thatAlan Wake 2is digital-only because “a large number” of gamers are digital-only, and there are even digital-only consoles, with the PS5 Digital Edition and the Xbox Series S cited as examples. “It is not uncommon to release modern games as digital only,” Remedy explained, though that doesn’t really apply to big budget, AAA releases and is usually a treatment reserved for indie titles. Remedy also explained that by ditching a disc it would mean that it could keep the cost of the game down, and that if it had shipped a disc, it would still have required a download to play the game.

Something else that may annoy some fans is that there is a price discrepancy between the PC version ofAlan Wake 2and the console versions of the game. Those planning on picking upAlan Wake 2on PS5 or Xbox Series X will have to pay $59.99, whereas PC gamers get the game for $49.99. This isn’t the first time that there’s been a price discrepancy between PC and consoles, but no explanation as to why this is happening withAlan Wake 2has been given at the time of this writing. On the bright side, perhaps the slightly lower price will alleviate the frustration of PC gamers who aren’t happy aboutAlan Wake 2being published by Epic Gamesand therefore releasing as an Epic Games Store exclusive.

In the midst of confirming these potentially controversial details about the game, Remedy also confirmed some of its other release plans forAlan Wake 2. It confirmed theAlan Wake 2pre-order bonuses and Deluxe Edition, with the latter coming with an expansion pass that will add two expansions to the game for $69.99 on PC and $79.99 on consoles.

Regardless, some fans are upset about howAlan Wake 2is digital-only and others will likely be unhappy to find out that they have to pay more for the game if they play it on PlayStation or Xbox consoles. But while the game’s release plans have caused some backlash, it has otherwise been warmly received.Alan Wake 2gameplay looks impressive, and Remedy’s track record indicates that it will likely be a high quality game when it releases this October.
