Summary
ThePS5has become an iconic console for the modern era of gaming with its stark white cover design helping distinguish itself from its predecessors and its competitors. While some players like the sleek white coloring of thePS5, others want to change things up with a different color that better suits their taste. As an answer to this problem, Sony has introduced interchangeable covers for the console that come in a variety of colors, but there are still some great colors missing that deserve to be released as PS5 cover options.
Currently, PS5 owners can get covers in the colors Midnight Black, Cosmic Red, Starlight Blue, Galactic Purple, Nova Pink, and Gray Camouflage. Additionally, it was announced in the latest State of Play that three new cover options would be added to the line-up including Volcanic Red, Cobalt Blue, and Sterling Silver each with a metallic finish as part of the Deep Earth Collection. While these new options are exciting, Sony should consider adding even more colors to their library of PS5 covers.

Green
Although green is typically associated with the Xbox’s branding, the PS5 could differentiate itself from Xbox’s electric green and feature a softer shade that’s more in line with the othercolors of covers the PS5 offers. There are already two different shades of red on offer for PS5 owners, and red has become the main color associated with Nintendo, so there is room for overlap with Xbox’s color scheme as well. A green PS5 cover could also be a great chance to reference the classic colors of the PlayStation buttons and utilize the triangle button’s green as the basis for this cover.
Teal
If green is a bit too close toXboxfor Sony’s liking, adding a bit of blue into the mix and creating a teal PS5 cover could be the next best thing. PlayStation already has a history of using teal in its branding as the original PlayStation logo included teal alongside red, blue, and yellow. Both teal and green would be different enough colors that the two could live alongside each other in the same catalog of PS5 covers.
Orange
As Halloween approaches, an orange PS5 cover becomes even more appealing, and Nintendo has proven with its orange Joy-Con that the color is popular among players. The PlayStation has had plenty of orange mascots over the years likeCrash Bandicootand Ratchet fromRatchet and Clank, so it would be appropriate to honor them with a thematically colored PS5 cover. Although there are already two shades of red covers for the console, a bright orange cover would be different enough that it could stand out from the other colors.
Scarlet
Sony could pay homage to anotherclassic PlayStationbutton color and make a PS5 cover that matches the circle button’s scarlet color. This shade could be a nice middle ground between the red colors of the covers on offer and a potential orange cover. Aside from red, the PS5 is limited in the number of warm-colored covers available for it, so another hue like this would be more than welcome within its catalog of cover options.
Yellow
Another warm color that the PS5 is missing is yellow, especially since no other major competitor uses the color as an important part of their branding. Yellow is also another color used in theoriginal PlayStation logo, so it would make sense for it to appear as a throwback option for PS5 covers. The finish of this yellow cover could be matte like most of the other covers, or have a metallic finish like the Deep Earth Collection to give thisPS5cover a golden look.
