Summary
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3Zombies may be a step away from the round-based experiences longtime fans love, but when looking at it objectively, many players have found that the open-world experience has a lot to offer. Teaming up with random players in the open-world is wildly entertaining, while MWZ’s Mercenaries work surprisingly well - even if they are too easy following a nerf. Missions offer a clear sense of progression, looting is enjoyable, and contracts are fun even after dozens of completions. As such, while many fans are excited about the return of survival maps inCall of Duty2024, there are some good thingsModern Warfare 3Zombies has done that are worth keeping around.
MWZ’s Schematics Should Be in CoD 2024
Schematics inCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 3Zombies are the best part about its gameplay loop, as if players are lucky enough to get them when completing contracts, they can exfil with the recipes to create perks,Wonder Weapons, and upgrades every few hours. This is an excellent reward that suits the limited match times of MWZ, but it could also work in round-based gameplay. Unlocking schematics would have to be incredibly difficult, with them having a rare chance to drop from the final bosses of Easter eggs or when reaching high rounds like 50 and up. However, letting players who spend dozens of hours playing Zombies get a head start on their matches would not be too much of an issue, as Gobblegums have done the same thing in the past.
Missions Should Remain a Part of CoD Zombies
WhileCoDZombies’ beloved Easter egg quests will hopefully return inCall of Duty2024, that does not mean that seasonal missions cannot accompany them. These mission objectives could be just like those in MWZ, with players needing to get kills with certain Ammo Mods, defeat certain mini bosses, and so on. Special missions tied to finishing side quests, gathering intel, and triggeringZombies' music Easter eggscould also be added. These missions could reward players with a bonus cutscene or even a special level at the end of the act like MWZ, revealing backstory for a key location or character. The seasonal mission chains could even end with teasers for the next round-based map.
MWZ’s Inventory System Should Be The Standard For Zombies
Though there will not be a bunch of loot to collect like inModern Warfare 3Zombies,Call of Duty2024 should still give players access to a backpack to store items. This storage could allow them to pick up extra equipment to use for later, stacking up grenades and C4 that drop on the ground instead of letting them disappear.Call of DutyZombies’ perk machinescan be visited to purchase extra cans that can be stashed for later use, like after a player has been revived, while players could access their inventory to drop points for their co-op partners.
While looting makes more sense for an open-world experience, perhaps Treyarch could randomly scatterMonkey Bombs, streaks, and other useful items across a round-based map to make the backpack feature more useful. The locations for these loot drops could be randomized each match, making players search the maps thoroughly ever time to play.

MWZ’s Contracts Should Be in a Possible Outbreak 2.0
Though MWZ is expected to receive a lot of support throughout all the plannedModern Warfare 3Seasons, it is unclear if anything will be done with the mode once Treyarch’s next game releases. Perhaps a new Outbreak mode will be released inCall of Duty2024, with Treyarch using its experience from the original version and MWZ to craft an even better large-scale experience. Assuming this happens, it would be great to see a few of MWZ’s contracts scattered throughout each Outbreak zone in addition to the main objective, as they would give players something else to do in each tier.
MWZ’s Fast Weapon XP Should Be a Zombies Staple
Lastly, and perhaps most importantly for those who engage withCall of Duty’s yearly camo grind, is weapon XP. Though it was briefly lowered, the high amount of XP earned in MWZ has been restored, and the quick leveling should be present withinCall of Duty2024 as well. Not only are attachments important in Zombies, meaning that they should not take forever to acquire, but there are so many weapons that it makes little sense to force players to spend a lot of time ranking each one up. Plus, fast weapon leveling could push those who normally only play multiplayer to try Zombies so that they can rank up their guns faster, and they may find that they enjoy the mode in the process. Growing the Zombies community will always be important, and fast weapon XP is one way to give the mode an edge.
